I don't know if I've mentioned this before - may have slipped my mind -
but Miranda's mother Kira gets epileptic seizures every now and then.
She had one the other night. They used to come every 6 months or so, but
now they are coming every 3-4 months. :o( My niece has opted not to
medicate her, since the meds usually cause other complications.
This condition seems to be hereditary; at least one of Kira's siblings
has it. IIRC, it's a female, and the owner has chosen to continue
breeding from her even after the condition was discovered! Sometimes I
just don't get these breeder types. Kira's condition had not been
discovered before she had her kittens. But all this means that I will
have to keep a close watch on Miranda. :o(
Some purrs for Kira would be greatly appreciated. My niece has posted a
lot of pictures from the island, though she says she still has a lot
that she hasn't had time to process yet. If you go far enough backwards
in the photostream, you can see some pictures of Kira being walked. She
isn't on the island pictures, because she doesn't enjoy being on the
island, so she didn't go this year. There are some of Caliban and
Miranda, and a lot of Kasper and Emil (Kasper is darker and has
glowering eyes - he looks like a lion in the face, while Emil has a
sweet innocent look about him).

Purrs for Kira's epilepsy.
Kira's slave's photos are stunning, as usual. I thought the one of
Kasper stretching silhouetted against the shore was funny. Are there
any more stories to go along with the pictures of Caliban and Emil
sniffing each other's butts? Your last story about the ambush sounded
like it could have been continued. ;)

I was wondering what that is, and I'm still wondering! But it looks
really really good.

I thought that pic of Kasper was funny, too. Emil's and Caliban's
relationship is hard to describe. I've been thinking about how to
describe it, and haven't come to any solution. They were mostly OK with
each other, they often sniffed each other thoroughly, and sometimes they
almost played together. Or it was more like, they played in parallel; if
say I was pulling a long reed around for them to chase, they would chase
it in turns, but never at the same time. Or they would run around the
cliffs side by side, but never touch each other (Mir and Cal would
always end up wrestling if they ran around the cliffs). I think they're
both just so very non-aggressive that neither quite had the guts to
initiate a good wrestling match.

Heh, the crust is made from sourdough and the filling from rice pudding.
They are slathered in melted butter and baked in the oven. The
traditional topping is a mixture of butter and boiled eggs. They are an
easy snack for lunch, and most people buy them ready-made from the
shops, but my niece is into baking and cooking and such. I've never made
them myself, but I believe it's a huge job.

Many purrs for Kira and also for Miranda to be seizure free in the
future.
Loved the pictures, very nice. The food was very yummy looking too and
I also liked the shoes, not that I could ever take a step in them
without breaking my neck!

Lots of purrs for Kira and her slave. I hope Miranda hasn't inherited the
condition.

Purrs and gentle headbutts on the way for Kira and your sister from all
five of my gang. Barnaubs said he will help you keep and eye on Miranda
and if she begins to seize he will wrap his paws around her and hold her
so that she doesn't hurt herself.

That is so irreponsible of the breeder to continue to breed from a line with
a known defect. Can you put pressure on your cat fancy to have her
deregistered? (assuming she is a registered breeder) at the very least
someone should complain to your cat fancy council.
As you know I breed Burmese, many years ago I struck a hereditary problem
with the Tonkinese, I made the heart breaking decision to throw away 6 years
of hard work trying to work my way up the genetic ladder with the Tonks,
they had only just been recognised in NZ as a breed. One kitten died (at
five months) all the other kittens checked out just fine BUT I couldn't be
sure that they didn't carry the gene for the defect. The offspring of my
Burmese girl mated to another Burmese were fit and healthy.
Purrs for your baby to stay healthy.

Purrs for Kira and for Miranda. I'm glad that your niece has
discovered it, and that she is being monitored, and sad that
they'll be no more kittens from her. But it's better that way if
it's hereditary.

The first few times Kira had a seizure, she was rushed to TED, but
there's not much they can do, so now she just watches over Kira during a
seizure. X-rays and bloodtests show there's nothing wrong with her (like
a tumour). Apparently, she is fine five minutes after a seizure; she
will lay there panting for a while, then she will snap out of it, empty
all the food bowls she can find, and be very happy and purry and want
attention. They are monitoring her, but as long as the seizures don't
come more often, they are not going to medicate her. She's a bit of a
scaredycat and would be difficult to pill, and as I mentioned, the meds
may have side effects, so I'm convinced this is a good decision.
