I've been mixing in some Iams into his prescription s/d food.  He's
eating a bit more of it, but still not enough.  However, he seems to eat
a little bit more each day, so that's encouraging.  He also eats quite a
bit of the s/d kibble.  At this point any food he takes in is good with
me.  I can still feel the bumps of his spine all along his back.
Today, he was out basking in the sun on the patio area and I took his
canned food out to him.  He's never eaten outside before but he liked it
and tucked in.  After he had enough, he went inside and curled up on the
bed.
He has really turned into a heat seeking missile.  In the evenings, it's
practically impossible to remove him from Dennis' lap.  At night, he
must occupy hoomin body space at all times.
He also spends a lot more time in the meatloaf position.  I was
wondering about that but realized it's probably to keep his arms warm.
He's got a pretty big area shaved off both arms, from the IV at the
vet's.  When he tucks them under his chest, they must stay warmer.  Poor
bugger, he's missing so much fur, it's no wonder he's cold!  He's also
got a 2 square inch patch out of his back, from the cat bite, and his
throat is shaved from the blood sample they took.  This is his 3rd
throat shaving since September!  Poor bugger.  The patch on his back is
growing back in but he will have a dime sized bald patch from where the
abscess was :-(

I haven't caught up on old posts, so don't know exactly what's wrong
with Vino, but it sounds like he has been through a lot lately, poor
little guy. I'm so sorry to read that he has been poorly. Many purrs on
the way for him from the other side of the globe.

First he had an abscess from a fight with another cat, then developed
struvite crystals that blocked him and had to spend several days at TED. :(

Vino got bit on the back by a neighbour cat and then developed a urinary
blockage.  He spent 4 or 5 days at the vet and is now on special food.
We think the blockage was probably precipitated by the stress of the
move and quarantine, and then brought on more by the stress of the cat
bite.
But he is slowly improving, it's slow but still noticeable.  I think he
will be ok but probably still another month at least until he's back to
himself.

Aaw, your poor baby boy! So glad that he is on his way to recovery. This
must have been very stressful for you. Purrs for you all!

Aww. Sounds like a good strategy for getting him to eat more.

He lost his layer of fat, so maybe that's why he needs a little extra
help staying warm.

Also, he's still adjusting to the new climate after 5 years in Thailand.
I know he lived in air conditioned splendor for most of that time, but
now it's winter where he is! (... ahhhhhh ... wiiiiiinterrrrrr.... <Homer
Simpson gurgling noise>  Sorry - it's a northern hemisphere thing, you
wouldn't understand. :))

Glad he's doing better, even if he's not improving at quite the speed
you had hoped! Purrs for him to fatten up and warm up!

I'm glad you posted this, Britta. I was wondering about Vino. I think
feeding him outdoors is a good idea. Bootsie, my little picky eater,
will eat on the porch better than indoors. DH says she likes to
picknick. I think she likes to pretend she's a poor starving stray cat.
:-)
I think the fur might grow back where the abscess was. It did on Frank.
The fur came in darker though.
Poor guy. It sounds like he's getting lots of TLC. Hope he's back 100%
soon.

Purrs for Vino to get well fast.  Does he have  a fever?

He's such a cuddly sweetie!  I hope he will start eating a bit more.
Like Karen says, eating is good.

Poor little guy!  I'm glad he's getting better, and eating better, though.

Get Well Soon Vino Purrs enroute to Australia via the U.S. Whatever he
eats right now, I'm in favor of it, even if he wants to eat on the
roof. =o) Hopefully, he'll be back to his old self soon.

I've been thinking about, Vino. I'm glad he's improving, thanks for the
update.

Poor Vino! Rusty will keep purring for him. Rusty also is skinny and
lost fur while he fought
the evil ringworm. Fur is ever so slowly growing back on the bald patch
on his tummy.
Hope both of them will put some weight on soon.

I'm glad that you're seeing your slow but steady improvement.  He's had an
event filled last few months that's for sure and he probably needs some R&R
and cuddles to recover.

Glad he's doing better. I can understand the lap fungus thing -
he's been through a lot. As you all have with him. More purrs.

Lots and lots of eating and health purrs and best wishes,
