Lily has been missing for the past 24 hours. Please could she have some
get home safely purrs? I last saw her yesterday evening before I went to
bed, and haven't seen her since. This is most unlike her and I am very
worried.
Thanks

Have you checked with the neighbours where she was playing with the children
the other day?
Purrs for her swift return.

I hope that your cat has made it home by now. I have a cat that stays
outside a lot. she is usually home at about the same either in the
morning, but more likely in the evening. She has been know to
occasionally be gone for a day or two. The first time that this
happened it was very upsetting.
I therefore can empathize with your dilemma.
The only thing that you can do is to check with neighbors, if the are
close, to see if anyone has seen your cat. Cats are, by nature,
hunters and wanderers. They will sometimes traverse several miles in
area. It is unusual for a cat to just get lost, but it could happen.
Get in your car and check around if you do not see your cat soon. It
may just be distracted.

Too bad. You let her out, you deserve what you get.
But she doesn't. Why won't you keep her safe?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. I've made the decision to
let my cats out based on the surrounding circumstances including a
relatively safe environment and very nice neighbours who all like cats.
When my cats lived in the USA, and also other places within the UK, they
were indoor only. Their quality of life is much improved by being able
to be indoor/outdoor. Indded, I had the exact same discussion with my
feline specialist vet, who also feels that in appropriate circumstances
indoor/outdoor is a much better quality of life for a cat.
It can lead to periods of worry, as is evidenced by my last 36 hours,
however, it also had a good resolution and Lily is none the worse for
wear.
I can totally see your point of view, but we really do live under very
different situations.

I see so MANY fascists of the other persuasion that is kind of
refreshing to find you. Why don't you go argue with the morons who
think I should let WooToo, my mom's cat for six years who has never
been outside, out in an area where coyotes are fairly common. There IS
good tree cover which would make it fairly safe for many cats but
WooToo can't climb trees.
Helen is in a good place for cats being outdoors and knows what she is
about. I just hope that wascal comes home soon.

If people continue to let their pets out then be prepared for
something to happened to them !!!

There are good arguments on both sides of this issue, which is why I
don't believe there is a right or wrong about it - it depends on the
circumstances, the cat, and the person (in that order). Unfortunately,
some people have a rigid, "fascistic" personality type and just keep
mindlessly saying the same thing over and over, which is why I'm only
quoting your post - I've heard that broken record before.
Clearly you know what's best, in your situation, for WooToo, and Helen
knows what's best for Lily in hers.
