Shrews are bendy

Debbie Wilson - 15 Oct 2004 08:08 GMT Warning. If you get home late after an evening out with friends, and find three of your cats sitting in a close triangle staring intently at one part of your rowing machine, do not reach down blindly with your hand to see if you can feel anything, because a pair of invisible incisors will bite repeatedly on your fingertip causing pain and alarm.
Also. Do not pick up small, very annoyed shrews by their tails, for they are bendy and will climb up their own bodies in order to bite you (again).

I hope that you don't have any serious side effects from being bitten. I have to admit I'm impressed that you stuck with the shrew long enough to pick it up after it bit you the first time. I think I would have found Selena's favorite hiding spot under the bed if it had happened to me.

My incentive for sticking with it was the thought of it being resident in the flat otherwise, maybe in our large and well-stuffed sofa, or maybe in our bed :-o

It's incredible how incisors so small can hurt so much, isn't it? You saved the cats from a vomit anyway, eating shrews always make them puke. I did this once as a small child, maybe 5. A cat was trying to get a mousie that had taken refuge a foot up in a small hedge in my grandfather's garden. I didn't hesitate, put my hand into the hedge, grasped the mouse to rescue it and OUCH! Ungrateful creature ;-) I've never forgotten it. First and last time.
