I've had my newest owner for about a month now and I decided that it was
time to start training her for life as a service animal.  Boy is she
good.  She's had a harness on her before, but this time I added a leash.
Her initial reaction was to lay on her side and play with the cool
ribbon dangling from her.  Not quite what I was going for.  But it
wasn't the dreaded, "Oh no, I'm dying, I have this string attached to
me!" reaction that a lot of cats get.  Bottom line, she walked on a
leash like she was trained to do so as a tiny kitten.  No slinking
around or anything, she just walked along.  I was so proud of her.

When I got her to my therapists office, she was the biggest love bug.
She rubbed up and down a woman who was standing there talking to the
receptionist just a purring like there was no tomorrow.  She greeted the
receptionist with the same huge purrs as well as my therapist.  There
were no strangers.  She is just plain NOT shy.  She explored my
therapists office from one end to the other and was, to be quite honest,
a huge distraction because she was so darn cute.  I am getting over a
cold, so it was just as well that we didn't want to work very hard.

I have to say I have never known a cat this old - she was about 8 months
old when I got her, so, 9 months old now, that just adapts so readily to
new things.  But she is cool.  She wasn't owned before I adopted her,
maybe fostered, but she is very well socialized considering she was in a
cage long enough to rub the fur off her front legs where she reached out
the front of the cage.  She is going to make an excellent service animal.

How wonderful, Bridget!  Sounds like you'll both be quite a good team -- I'm
happy for you.

What a good litle girl Mattie is! So sad about her being in that cage so
long, but now she's got you! Lucky for both of you.

A house is not a home, without a cat.
