Mark Edwards - 16 Jul 2006 02:09 GMT One of my nicknames for Little Boy is Kissakitten. And he's certainly taken to it.
Whenever I hold him, or when he's at my eye level (like on top the fridge), if I call him Kissakitten, he lunges his face at me, expecting either kisses or nose touches. When holding him, I get the added bonus of a hug, with paws squeezing my neck, and a face rub against my beard.
He is such a loveable little brat. I'm glad he is so affectionate.
Hugs and Purrs, Mark

I'm glad he is so affectionate. Awwwwwwww!! Mayhem does that too!!! Whenever i'm in bed she jumps up and meows for attention. And when she settles on my pillow and I roll over and look at her closely she sticks out her nose to mine. What a sweetie!!
She's also has done this to wake me up in the morning. If she's REALLY insistent to wake me up, she'll walk on my chest and give me a nose kiss. And if the nose kiss doesn't get you to open your eyes, the furry whiskers in your face will.
She's such a sweetheart.

[quoted text clipped - 9 lines] > Hugs and Purrs, > Mark Whenever Blacky wants to cuddle he has the ability to tell his hoomins so. One of us - as obedient cat slaves - lays down on the couch - right side against the couchback. He will jump up, walk his 6kg (13 pounds) over his hoomin and settle down on the chest, looking his hoomin right into the eyes. Then usually he stretches and put his big paws across his hoomin's chin, throat, cheek and/or nose, doing some gentle hoomin-petting (and sometimes gentle clawing - I call it "claw-a-puncture") with purr mode 2 activated.
If you then start petting him, he often turns on his back, stretches out his limbs and presents his tummy for some tummy rubbing - he likes that very much.
After some minutes purring is taken back to purr mode 1 and then purring fades out - cat seems sound asleep. This can take 15 to 30 minutes, then - often all too sudden - his head will jerk up, eyes and ears focussed to something outside hoomin' perception. Blacky stands up, jumps down to the floor and is going to continue his usual cat business for the day.

I seem to remember that from a Finnish website that someone on this ng posted. (Can't remember who it was - wasn't Marina.)
He sounds like a sweetie. I love hearing about the "hugs", with his front paws around your neck. I've never had a cat do that - it must be very sweet.

S/he "complained" about having to translate parts of the site into English as so many English-speaking viewers had visited the site.

I didn't care what language it was in - those photos were so beautiful. Great pictures of goats and other animals in addition to cats.
I just love it that "kissit" is a nickname for a cat in Finnish. That's just what I want to do to a cat! :)

"kissit" is a nickname kind of word for "(the) cats" not "a cat". One cat would be "kissi", or "kisu", or "katti", or "kattimus", or "miuku"... etc. We tend to make lots of nicknames for the ones we love. There's a saying in Finnish - "Rakkaalla lapsella on monta nimeä." (a few dots there, hope you see them), meaning A dear/loved child has many names.

Yes, more so towards the kitty-cats than the beasties, tho.

It was always going from one family function to another in large groups. Radio Finland station RLE used to have a shortwave service to North America with basic lessons in speaking Finnish, but they stopped most NA broadcasts shortly after I discovered the program.

Well, the reason why I put the word "complained" in citation marks, was that I think Prosessi didn't really feel too bad about it. I believe the site has had quite a few more hits than before due to international viewers. Maybe I should have included a smiley or five in the post above... ;)

I figure I should learn more about Finnish culture, customs and language since I married into a family of Canadian-Finn heritage :) I'm from a family of Americans of Italian and Polish heritage. Once I made myself an offer I couldn't understand ;)

That's Nina, too all right. =o) She was very affectionate last night, one of those "I have to be with you RIGHT NOW!" moods.
