Well, the unspecified purr failure made for an interesting day today.
Or maybe it's because Friday the 13th came a day early this month (big
grin). Or maybe the purrs just got me out of what I had so I can get
something much better.
My position at work was terminated today, and my "services are no
longer required". On the bright side, if you have to lose a job, this
is one of the best possible reasons to lose it - easier to justify in
interviews, at any rate.
I am now looking for work as an experienced Delphi programmer, a
junior C#/.NET programmer, an experienced perl programmer, a
semi-experienced web programmer, or a greeter at Walmart (big grin).
I am not entirely surprised, and I'm not yet in shock (although I
expect it to hit any second now - evil grin).
Oddly enough, two hours after I was released, I had two new emails on
my PDA, trying to recruit me for jobs (probably a million miles away,
listing skills I don't have at levels that are impossible to meet...).
So... now I could use some very specific purrs, to get the perfect
job, making much better pay, with benefits and all. Oh, and really
quickly, while I still have some money...
Hugs and Purrs,
Mark

....And from Southern California. At least *I* had a full
year's warning things would not be continuing as they were,
and a couple of months to get used to the idea of being
"full-time" retired. Also, I DO have "retirement income"
which should be adequate - once I get used to living on what
would be my "normal" take-home salary. (I had grown
accustomed to that amount PLUS three days a week additional
pay, and it's much easier to adjust to more income than to
less!)

I hope you'll be able to find something good, Mark. Today looks like
it's the day for turnovers! Well, it's a Friday, which is the usual
day of the week to do this sort of thing, like how Monday is the
typical of the week for a new employee's first day.

I'm sorry!! :(
They certainly were direct with you about it, though, weren't they?
"Your services are no longer required." At least they didn't pretend
it was something else. When I was laid off a few years ago, they called
it something weird, like the "restructuring program", except it was
better than that, wish I could remember it. A euphemism worthy of the
movie "Office Space."

Sounds like you have some excellent skills (well, I don't know about
the last position :)), and the economy has picked up quite a bit from
a few years ago. I think you'll be OK. Hey, try to enjoy a few days or
weeks off!
