Hi All,

Some of you may remember my story of the little kitten who didn't
play.  That was my sweet little Persian, Roxy.  She had been "owned"
by a couple who just had to have everything too too perfect and got a
Persian because they wanted a 'purebred' to match their decor.  At
least they had the sense to give her up, but they had been keeping her
in the garage and when she got here she didn't know what playing was.

She learned to play and now regularly gives me "Little Kitty Pats" (my
nickname for her) when she wants to play with the red bug or the
peacock feather.  She isn't much for affection though and while she
liked the occasional skritch, she just hasn't been a 'people' cat.

This morning was different though.  As I lay in bed preparing to get
up, along came Roxy in a very snuggy mood.  She did all sorts of
behaviors from upside-downy-head to just leaning against my hand while
I went through the best of my repertoire of kitty skritches.  And then
it happened -- she purred!  What a delight!  I hope it means that
she's going to keep on becoming more socialized, that would mean that
she'd finally put her unfortunate childhood behind her.

Regards and Purrs,
O J

Sounds like cause for celebration - Roxy's first purr ;-)

How sweet!! Aren't those breakthroughs wonderful? Looks like she's
figured out that humans are useful not just for food and games, but
for snuggles and scritches too. Congratulations!

That's so marvellous. OJ, that she purred and did upside downy head.  She is
obviously beginning to trust you.
Boyfriend has only purred once since I had him :-( and then it was almost
inaudible.

Our little Hubert doesn't purr either, except when he's nursing.

OJ, that's really encouraging and I'll bet you'll make even greater strides
with her over time -- what a lucky kitty she is!

A nice way to wake up--for both of you! =o) Roxy is fortunate to have landed
with humans who can appreciate HER, rather than humans who think cats are
accessories for their homes, kind of like drapes or throw pillows (GRRR!). I
suppose that's not quite as bad as outright abuse and cruelty, but pussycats
need LOVE! They need scritches and playing and cuddles. In short, they  need
to be adored to be happy.

We had to teach our smokey-poke to play and purr, since all he knew
were elite-special-forces feral survival skills, plus a minor in
food-scamming and dumpster-diving.  His play is now a delight, but his
purr sounds more like a rude phone call--heavy breathing, grunting,
and seismic rumbles.

Ah well.

Roxy sounds like a happy girl.  She is lucky to have you.

Aww, how sweet. It reminds me of my Persian, Tiffy, whose previous owners
didn't let her on the bed or furniture. As a result she didn't know how to
jump. The little darling is learning well now.
