I'm 51 (no, no, that *can't* be right!).  There will be no horrendous
battles with animal-abusing neighbors this year (although I consider
Arthur my best birthday present *ever*).  Without DH, it is strange.
I got a couple of cards from friends, which is nice.  I'm having a
friend over to eat pizza and watch a DVD tonight.  So it will be
mostly quiet and not too exciting.  But maybe that's a *good* thing
;-)

I'll have to give the kitties special treats, since the kittens'
birthday was Monday (I think?  I always forget what I give them!),
Cosmo's is Saturday, and Brando's was a couple of weeks ago.  There
are way too many Cancerians in this household!  lol!

Happy Birthday, Ginger-Lyn!

Yes, quiet can sometimes be a very good thing.  I'm glad you'll have a
friend to help you celebrate.  I can tell you are starting to build a new
life for yourself.  It takes time, whatever the reason (I'm a widow and had
to do that), but it can happen and you can end up with a very satisfying
life, as I did.

The absolutely only thing wrong with fifty one is no matter how you look at
it you are definitely into middle aged.  At sixty I've got myself convinced
elderly doesn't begin until 71 or later.

If your body will allow you to believe that fifty is the new forty, more
power to you and go for it.  But at least by 51 you have a pretty good idea
of who you are.  And can relax and make the best of it.  Worrying about who
you aren't was always such a waste of time anyway.

Enjoy the pizza, hope its a great DVD.  Excitement is often overrated.
Pleasure is not.

My parents are in their late 60s.  I can't even imagine anyone calling
them elderly.  They're active, social, travel all over the place, go
boating ... all sorts of good stuff.  Dad is flying out at the end of
the month to spend a week hiking with me.  He rides his bike on a
seven mile loop around his neighborhood almost every day.

And in 10 years, you'll raise the bar again.  I'm approaching 71 (in
November), and hoping to celebrate the same way I celebrated my 70th - by
jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.

You GO!!!  After all George Bush Sr was jumping out of planes at age 80.
He'd still be jumping out of them but Barbara made him stop.  When I'm
in my 70s I want to be a globe trotting mama who drives her middle aged
kids and young grandkids nuts.  Then, when I die, I want to haunt my
idiot sister if she's still kicking up trouble on earth, and her
daughters if she isn't.

Then will you come and visit me and Yowie in Sydney, Australia?
please, pretty-please?  Maybe even before you're in your mid-70s? (who
wants to wait 20 years for that kind of treat?

I'd wait until Annie posts about our meeting before getting too excited.
If we could afford it, Rob and I would be traveling where ever he
wants to go (Australia is currently at the top of his list) and enjoying
all the time he has left.  It's one of the reasons I want to get my
teacher's degree.  I want to be able to save up some money and give him
the experiences he wants to have.

On a lighter note.  Rob's parents are in Alaska on vacation.  Rob's dad
has been going on and on about going deep sea fishing up there.  So what
happens?  He gets seasick before the boat is even a mile from shore.  He
had to spend the whole afternoon out there wishing he could just off
himself and get it over with.  As soon as he got back to shore, he
canceled the booking for a boat trip out to visit the glacier and whale
watch.  Rob's mom is all kinds of upset....NOT!

Sounds dependable, which is a very good thing. One year, right after
an extremely painful breakup, I decided to have a big birthday party
to cheer myself up. Well, it rained really, really hard that night,
and everyone except one person cancelled. I sat there crying the whole
night instead of celebrating. Probably should have just invited that
one friend over!

Happy birthday! Make sure Arthur is part of your celebrating. :)

Purrs for a happy purrday, Ginger-lyn.  I turn 51 in September.  It's a
good time of life, I think.  You're young enough to enjoy life and old
enough to know you're enjoying it.  How do you cope with all the
Cancerians in your house?  Rob is bad enough.

Oops, I missed it by a day -- but Happy Belated 50th!  I know what you
mean about the shock -- I went through it last year.  But I thought,
darn it, 50 is good.  Much better than 18, eh?
