Just saw a news report of a building fire, explosion & then collapsing in
Manhattan, between Park & Madison Ave's on 62nd St!

Hope all NYC members are OK, and none of their loved ones (fur and bare) are
affected by this!

Purrs for the people who *were* near this explosion.

Definitely!  In my haste to check with members, I forgot that most important
part.

Fortunately, though, doesn't look like there were any deaths, just injuries!

Well, we are all OK.  I didn't leave Brooklyn today.  That is a very
familar part of town-- it sounds like it was a townhouse.  I am
listening to the radio now, and they still do not know the cause.
Very scary thing.

They *think* it was a gas (natural gas, like for stoves & furnaces) that
blew - still not 100% though - here's a story from an Indy news station:

And yes, it was a smaller (4-story) building, sandwiched between a couple of
taller ones.

Possibly rent-controlled?  From what I've heard, Manhattan
landlords limited by rent-control often neglect proper
maintenance, hoping tenants will move out, and they can
charge more to the next one.  (Although you'd think
something like gas leaks.....)

That sounds very close to Lincoln Center!  (Or is that the
other side of the Park?)

Thanks for the information.

I think Takiyuki is in New York.  Does anyone have a way to contact him and
get him to check in?

Yup, he and I are neighbors, a bit North of Boston. Its sounds like the
building was mostly medical offices.
