Both Dennis and I went in this morning to visit Vino. We were there for
over 2 hours. He visibly perked up to see us. Also, we took him into a
quieter back room and took his e-collar off, so he liked that. He stood
up and "peed" and we saw a bunch of little clumps moving down the tube
from his catheter. So at least his bladder is getting flushed out.
He laid down on the edge of the table like he likes to do, and hung over
the edge looking down. When the vet came in, he definitely showed us
that he doesn't like her! She's the mean one who does icky things to
him! He can have such a grumpy expression, it's hilarious. She's
actually a very good vet, but from his perspective, he's seeing her as
the enemy.
He did seem very interested when she opened the door to the outside and
he also had a good look out the window at the trees and the birds. A
sunbeam shone in and we set him down in it to soak up some rays.
We force fed him from a syringe in little increments and he kept it down
the whole time we were there. But he still wouldn't eat on his own.
He still had some pockets of the fluid from the IV in his sides, was a
bit jelly like. One side of his face was a bit puffy from it too, but
by the afternoon it was more symmetrical.
Late this afternoon we went to visit him again and the vet said that he
had puked a little after we had left and had to be moved to get some
meds into him. So that's quite disheartening :-( I wish he would just
eat and keep food down.
This afternoon they gave him an injection of anti-nausea drugs. After
that we squirted some more food into his mouth. But he puked it up
right away. Then he got all sleepy from the injection. So we left.
The vet said that they sent off a full blood panel this afternoon and
the results will be back tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully his electrolytes
aren't too too bad because that would mean he could get the catheter out
and not need an IV anymore. He could just have some electrolyte
supplements in his food instead. I'm thinking that once he comes home,
he would improve faster and hopefully eat too.
Let's hope for the best. Probably not tomorrow, but maybe on Wednesday
morning he could be home.
I have to work tomorrow and on Wednesday, but Dennis will be going in as
much as possible.

I think that being back home will indeed make him recover more quickly.
Purrs that they can take the IV and catheter off soon!

The Furballs are purring for Vino nice and loud. I haven't been able to
get to the group all weekend (I'm still trying to get that ruddy
network sorted out!) so I've been thinking of him lots and praying for
him (and brushing Sarrasine, which really gets those purr motors
revving)

Purrz for Vino. I'm sure he'll be home and loafing in no time.
Slightly OT, I've not posted to RPCA for months, but I'm totally
envious at your move to Margaret River, which is my favourite bit of
Australia. I'm a long-term fan of Cape Mentelle and Vasse Felix wines
and have spent a few Christmases-in-July in Pemberton which is - by
Aussie standards - just down the road. When Vino comes home, take
Dennis to Vasse Felix and have the game pie with their Shiraz. I had
that combo there in 2000, and it still ranks as the best meal I ever
ate in my entire life. Remember to get a catty-bag ;)
Cheers!

Well, we'd have to agree about Margaret River, it's our favourite part
of Australia as well. Absolutely wonderful place to live.
Do you come down here often? If so, let me know next time you're here
and we'll meet up :-)
Have been to Vasse Felix many times, actually kind of made friends with
one girl at cellar door because we have just chatted with her so much.
I tasted many Cape Mentelle wines in my wine course that I took. But
I've never actually been there yet. Will probably rectify that soonest.
I got a very nice bottle of sparkling Shiraz from Cullen which we
intended to open for Dennis' homecoming. But with Vino being away, it
will have to wait. Just wouldn't feel right to open it now. We will
have a little celebration when Vino is out of the woods and at home with
us.
Purrs for your mom, I hope she recovers quickly and completely.

It certainly is starting to sound more positive. I know it breaks your
heart to see him like that. I think the best medicine in the world
would be to get him home ASAP. Once he's well enough to be released, I
think he'll improve faster also. Purrs still coming.

Healing purrs for Vino; soothing purrs for you and Dennis. I can only
imagine how scary it must be when he just won't eat, and what he does
eat comes back up =/

Poor little man, I know how horrid catheter's are as Otis turned nasty
when he had his in (when they discovered just how bad dried food was
for him), and they put a warning notice on his cage as he was being so
bad tempered, he's such a placid feller normally he must have been
really uncomfortable. Then my dad was catheterised recently and he
verified that's it's not too pleasant, lots of hugs coming over for
Vino's speedy recovery.
