Vino update

Dennis rode his bike to the vet while I was working today.  He visited
with Vino for 2 hours.  He's doing ok, still has the catheter in and is
draining into a bag.  He will be ok but is still pretty out of it.  He
hunkered down on a table with Dennis hugging and petting him.
The vet's office has a resident cat, Lucky, who is a total love slut.
Whenever Vino would see Lucky sidling up to Dennis for attention, Vino
would make a noise similar to Marge Simpson when she's pissed off at
Homer.  In the end, Dennis had to cover Vino's eyes so he couldn't see
Lucky anymore.  Kept him calmer.
Dennis is going in for another visit tomorrow, while I'm working again.
We're hoping that Vino will be well enough to go home by Monday
afternoon.  We really miss him.  Can't even really celebrate Dennis'
homecoming until the whole family's together.

Thanks for the update.  Cats can get ill very quickly and often don't show
any signs until they are *very* sick, so Vino is lucky to have someone like
you to love and watch after him.  I know how worrisome this is for you.

Stinky makes that noise, too.  Kind of a rattly moan. ;)

Purring for the V-man.

Purrs for all three of you.  Sounds like Vino is out of the woods and
will be better soon.

What a relief!! When I got onto the newsgroup just now, I scanned
through all the posts until I found the "Vino update" ones first. I
couldn't take the suspense!

It's amazing how ill a cat can get from not being able to pee. I had
the (apparently mistaken) belief that once the urine is drained out, the
cat is fine. I guess there's more to it than that.

LOL, I can just hear that! Well, obviously Vino's not too sick to get
jealous. :)

Purrs for a quick recovery,

Yes, that's what I thought, but apparently the bloodstream can become
"urified" or soemthing, where there's ammonia in the blood or something
like that.  I can't remember all the details because for some reason
whenever doctors talk details to me, my brain shuts down and it's all I
can do to keep from passing out.
Also, his bladder has to shrink back to normal size and then learn to
work again.

Makes sense to me.  Sounds similar to gout, when the uric (sp?) acid
gathers in places it's not supposed to.

Also the level of potassium builds up and can cause heart trouble. I
really hope Vino gets over this well.

Purrs for Vino's vet stay.  It sounds like he's doing as well there,
but poor thing.

I have been really busy and not keeping up with the group so I was really
surprised to see this. I'm glad he's doing OK.
