My beautiful Scaredycat died today. She'd seemed much better in herself lately & had responded well to her thyroid meds, but last night lost the use of her back leg. Took her to the vet today and it was grim news - inflamed kidney, dehydration, severe anaemia, cancer, some sort of infection, blood loss into kidneys & bowel, and some other stuff that I can't remember. Vet said there was no prospect of her recovering and said she would be feeling so ill that he couldn't recommend that we took her home to nurse her. We were there with her as she went. It was very quick. To be honest, I think she was ready to go. Still hurts, though. My heart hurts. Poor Scaredycat - she had so many physical problems, I think that letting her go had to be the kindest thing you could do. She would have had a lot of suffering, otherwise, I think. It sounds like she tried to be brave and stay with you, but her dear little spirit needed to go where she could be healed; and I believe she is, over the Bridge. My heart hurts. What sudden news! Goodness, from that diagnosis I'm pretty sure you're right it was her time to go - what illness *didn't* she have?? When I had to make this decision, it was painful, but I don't think my Betty was in nearly as painful a shape as Scaredycat. At least you know you did the only thing possible, and now Scardycat is running and playing at the Bridge, like a kitten again.
