Well, I stayed away until I was able to deal with my feelings about some
of the postings of the group and think I can go back to ignoring them.
I'm probably going to lurk a bit at first though to make sure that I can
keep my opinions to myself for a while.

On the home angle, the owners are enjoying the fan I use in my room to
keep the heat down a little.  Rob isn't as comfortable with the fan, but
understands my need for moving air.  I went to the doctor earlier this
month and my blood sugars are down to 387 from the 485 they were last
time.  The doctor is talking internist and insulin.  I'll make it, but
man, I don't want to go the insulin route though I know it is time.

Huey, Tanada, Sonya, and Merlin have been keeping me company where ever
I'm at.  They are good watch cats.  They love to watch me work.  Tanada
has taken up potato salad theft.  I put chopped onion in my potato
salad, so I have to distract her with other foods.

I made catnip snakes for the owners.  They love them.  I used flour
sacking which holds the nip in and yet lets the cats love the scent.
The two socks I gave them have been loved, killed, hugged, rolled with,
and carried triumphantly around the house.  All of the cats love catnip,
so making them snakes was the best gift I could make them.

I'll be thinking good wishes for those who need them and asking the
owners to purr for everyone who could use their assistance.

Welcome back, Pam, I'm glad your clowder is fine. Purrs that your diabetes
can be controlled with just diet.

Welcome back!

Glad the furballs are fine.  Hope your diabetes can get under control
without the insulin.  Purrs coming your way for that.

Hi Pam,

Glad to see you back.

I wanted to check with you about your diabetes because I also have diabetes.
I was diagnosed T2 in May 2004 and went on a complete change of diet.  My
FBG was 289 when diagnosed, and in less than a year I was able to drop all
medication.  I now average 96-98 with tests taken at various times of the
day.

I may not have any particularly earthshaking information for you (basically,
South Beach *plus* complete elimination of all forms of flour, pasta, rice,
potatoes, and added sugars), but I thought you might want to consider
something similar.  I lost a substantial amount of weight, but the *type* of
food seems to have a lot to do with it.  For example, a single slice of
whole wheat toast will cause my BG to spike.  I eat lots of fresh veggies
and quite a few fresh fruit plus nuts, low-fat cheese, etc. -- so this is
not a low-carb diet (although it is much lower than what I previously ate).
I have friends who have diabetes, and it was on their advice that I adopted
this diet.  I realize that it is easier for me because I live alone and do
not have to deal with the high level of stress that you face, but I wanted
to encourage you to think about dietary changes because it would be
wonderful if you could obtain similar results.

Good luck!

I hope it isn't me.  I seriously had no idea that you had a
problem with the posting of anyone here, so you sure controlled it
well.  Good news about your BS, and if insulin is what you have to
do, well, by all means do it until you don't have to anymore!
Thanks for the kitty updates and give them all scritches from us.

Purrs for your sugar levels.  I'm sorry that you were upset by the
discussions you were having.  Everyone has their own different $.02
when it comes to allocating scarce budget resources, and usually don't
mean anything by it.

Welcome back, Pam.

Tell Rob he'll just have to get used to the fans.  We also use fans to move
the air around. It really helps keep the air fresher and eliminates the hot
and cold spots.

Good luck with your blood sugar levels. Fortunately, there are things you
can do to control it, but unfortunately, they aren't fun. It sounds like you
are having some success.
