Specifically, I pictured yours more like
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=14327&Ntt=cat%20ca
rrier&Ntk=All&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Np=1&N=2002&Nty=1
or

rier&Ntk=All&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Np=1&N=2002&Nty=1
... I'm thinking of trying the former, but I want to call and ask if
the top latches at all.

Mine looks more like this, http://www.sherpapet.net/index.php, except the
top is flush rather than raised up like that and unzips all the way around
for easy in and out.

That is the exact sherpa bag that we have. I love it. But don't ever
store it underneath other stuff. Ours got squished and now doesn't
retain it's shape anymore :-( I'm still trying to figure something out
with wires, etc, to prop it back up. In the meantime I'm using Vino's
plastic one, but I'm sure he's got bad associations with it due to his
long flight over here in cargo from Thailand.

That's the one I have for Persia. Has a nice removeable absorbent fleece
lining inside.

Yep, I wrote about Bandit peeing on it the last time at the vet (which is
why they couldn't get a urine sample). It absorbed the pee down away from
the surface and her fur so she wasn't wet by the time we got home, and it
was very easy to remove and wash. I *highly* recommend this carrier.

For some reason I'd pictured something more backpack or baggie like
from your original post.
Well, it sounds like a lot of rpcaers like these things, so maybe it's
time to get one for Oscar. Her plastic carrier is way too big for
her, and it's a pain to carry.
It looks like her lip is healing on its own, though -- the EGC
swelling has come down considerably. At least one thing is going
right =) Okay, okay, a lot of things are going right. Her paw is back
to a normal size again; I think it was honestly 1.5 to 2 times its
normal size for a few days.

It's not a backpack, but it does have a shoulder strap that makes it very
easy to carry.

Hrmm. I'm trying to identify the one you have. Do they make it
anymore?

I saw it at Petsmart recently. But I bought a similar one that alaso
has a removable fleece pad. It does not have all the metal clasps of a
Sherpa bag and so presumably lighter. I need
a lightweight one so I can carry Rusty in it to walk to the vet. The
price is cheaper too.

Nice! It looks very light.

OK, I was wrong, mine *does* have the raised top - it's just that Sammy
sleeps *on top* of it so the raised top is constantly pushed inwards! ;>

If you didn't have the Samazon, would you go with medium? Oscar's 9
lb, and I'm not sure how dimensions really apply for cats, who get
into the darndest positions. Maybe I should wait till she's
meatloafing and then measure her.
*Sigh* she's happily snoozing in my bed. No sign of paw nibbling. I
really need to medicate her tonight. Do I:
1) Interrupt her wonderful nap, taking advantage of grogginess to get
the job done?
2) Wait until she's awake and being a pain in the butt, then do the
above?
Obviously I need to enact the first option, but I don't wanna! She is
so adorable!

Mine is the large, naturally, and Sammy still has to scrunch to get in it!
