The Story of WooToo, So Far

WooToo is my Mom's cat. Mom became a cat person rather late in life and
had two Persians, Woo and Yoda. She paid a lot of money for Woo and got
her sister Yoda for free because Yoda looked funny and they were going
to have her put away. Yoda didn't live a normal lifespan but she had a
few great years being one of my Mom's cats, a wonderful fate. Woo
adapted to life without her sister but even a long life for a cat is
too short and eventually Mom was lookinfg for a new kittie.

One of her friends had a litter of DSH kittens and mom adopted one and
called her WooToo (or maybe Woo2) and they lived together for six
years. WooToo hid from visitors, I used to call her "the mythical cat"
and she hid longer from male visitors. However, she would eventually
come out and let people pet her. And Mom treated her just as she had
treated every d*g or cat she ever had; she pampered WooToo and loved
her.

And then my mom got sick. She had cancer and an operation didn't clear
it. However, she spent a wonderful long remission at my Niece's house
with Sara and her husband (my mom always called Andres "my boyfriend"
and she sure approved of Sara's choice) and her great-granddaughter
Heilie. WooToo stayed in Mom's room because she doesn't tolerate dogs
or other cats and Sara has Mary the cat and two d*gs. And then Mom got
sick again and lasted less than a day and she died.

In the aftermath, it was determined that WooToo needed a place to stay.
Sara would never have evicted her but she could not be intergrated into
the household. She seemed to suffer because Mom was gone and she didn't
have much of a future in that one room.

There I was, in a house with four cats and Bear the d*g but I was the
obvious choice. All our animals "belong" to Micki because she had them
before I moved in. They all seem to love me, except Missy who hates all
primates, but I missed Feather, my OWN cat. So my brother drove WooToo
from Maryland to Connecticut to be with me.

If any of you want to read more about WooToo' s adjustment to living
with her Uncle Bill, I will post again but right now I am overcome.

Will, what a beautiful, sad story!  I would very much like to hear more
about WooToo - and the other kitties in your clowder (and even Bear the
d*g!!).  ;>

Purrs for you and WooToo.  I would like to hear the rest of the story.

I apologize if this is rude, but it's not clear to me if you've been
given guardianship of WooToo very recently, or if you are describing
events that have already occured.

I don't think it is rude at all to ask. It was about this time last
year that Wootoo made the long trip from Maryland to Connecticut. That
was about a year after Mom and she made the trek from Ohio to Maryland
to begin my Mom's blessed period of remission.

I am going to continue the story tonight.

I'm so glad you were able to take Woo in. I KNOW that it will put your
mother at peace. there are many families that won't take care of the
animals. Bless you and I look forward to more stories of WooToo.

Will, I'm very sorry for your loss.  I'm sure though that giving WooToo
a loving new home would make your mother very happy if she knew.  Who
else could care for Woo better than her beloved son?  Purrs for WooToo
to settle in happily and soon. Be extrakind and gentle--she  is
mourning this loss of her home and hoomin without being able to
understand all the reasons why.

> WooToo is my Mom's cat.

<snip the part I wrote before>

So WooToo, who had always hidden from me, although she would come out
and get some petting after I had been in Mom's living room a few hours,
came to live with her Uncle Bill. I had my room all cat-proof and a
clean litter-box, the food she is used to and a nice bowl of fresh
water. So she hid. For days. I found evidence that she had used the
litter-box and she probably ate. But I didn't see her. For days.

And suddenly, I had a cat. She would come up on the bed and ask to be
petted. She would pull my arm with her paw if I didn't start the
skritching soon enough. It was good and my Mom was undoubtedly happy.
Not thrilled that poor WooToo had to put up with my standard of
housekeeping, I am sure, but happy. And WooToo seemed happy.

THE OTHER CATS AND BEAR

WooToo had never lived among other cats. The other cats in the house
are Himalayans and quite small. WooToo is very large. However, she
reacted with horror when any of the other cats entered the room. She
hissed like a big steam-engine. She simply evaporated when Bear entered
the room. So the door was closed. It broke my heart to deny Maggy May
and the others (except for Missy) entry to my room. However, they
didn't hold it against me. I always spend some quality time with them
in the living room and they crowd around like I never did anything to
offend them. On occasion, Maggy May just walks on into the room when I
open the door and she has seemingly made some progress with WooToo. She
sits and looks at WooToo until WooToo is done hissing, as if she is
listening to a long boring speech. Then she plays with me until I get
her to leave the room.

HER COMPUTER CHAIR

I had a very nice computer chair that I put together myself. I liked it
very much. So did WooToo. When I am in bed, she spends most of her time
on the bed. When I am NOT in bed, she wants to spend her time on the
computer chair. When use the chair briefly ,  she gives me an
occasional dirty look but she seems ok. If I spend a long time in the
chair, she does not take it well. She grumbles and gripes, head-butts
my ankle, but does not welcome the petting she seems to invite. If I
stay in the chair long enough, she does something really naughy right
on the floor. No matter how clean her litter box happens to be. So I
got a second computer chair. Hey, I had the fun of putting it together,
right. It was only money.

THE MOVE

I really expected a problem when we moved to this condo but she is
fine. The same furniture in the same general shape of room and nice
comfy carpet replacing the hardwood floor seem fine to her. She didn't
hide for any great length of time.

I dream about my mother's smiling face and she is smiling at WooToo and
I.

Lovely vignettes. Have the kitties ever managed a truce?

Is Bear a dog? How many other cats do you have?

Does Missy get along with WooToo?

Sweet. Thanks for the story.

You're welcome. It has been, um, good to post it.

Bear is a d*g, a Black Lab, we have Maggy May, Winnie, Sunrise and
Missy.

Missy never would enter my room in the first place. She does not like
primates. She gets along no worse with WooToo than the other cats to
and she gets along fine with the other cats, Maggy May is her mom, and
with Bear. Witih so many, it is easy to put up with one who doesn't
like human people.

Missy was never mistreated. Her mom is the Queen of Purrs and Miss
Fluffycat the Cuddler. Her grandmother, however, was a little
show-quality demon from the deepest reaches and Missy is a throwback.

Long ago, when I had Feather, a co-worker opined that coming back as my
cat would be better than almost any reincarnation she could think of. I
thought HER cat was spoiled, myself, but we all pamper our kitties if
we have any soul.

I'm coming very late to this because I was away without Usenet access,
but just had to tell you how much I enjoy your stories of WooToo (and
condolences on your loss).

> I had a very nice computer chair that I put together myself.

LOL! What a classical start to a cat anecdote! I *had* a very nice
computer chair. We all know what happens then. ;o) Thanks for the laugh
(I assume the new computer chair was for yourself - unless WooToo
decided the new one was better than the other one).
