Back from the vet with Vino

Ugh, I don't know who's more poorly off, me or Vino!
The vet shaved a patch of fur from around the wound on Vino's back.
Poor bugger hasn't had much success at keeping a full coat of fur this
past year, what with all the neck shaves to take blood for the tests for
quarantine.  Just as that's all grown in, he loses a patch on his back
:-(
The vet said that it looks like a bite from a cat fight, so I'm pretty
sure it was that black cat that comes over the fence in the back.
She cleaned it all up with betadine and then stuck this instrument into
the puncture to see how deep the abscess is.  At this point I went deaf
in my right ear, got tunnel vision and started to hyperventilate.  I
ended up sitting with my head between my knees for 20 min before I could
do anything :-(
Vino is fine, she said I got most of the pus out and it was already
healing up nicely.  I'm to clean him with betadine and lots of water
daily to keep the wound open and he's to get antibiotics twice a day for
7 days.  I will try crushing the pill and putting it in some wet food
which he loves.  If that doesn't work, I will try the pill popper.
I hope I don't pass out while cleaning the wound.  It's weird because I
was fine last night doing it, but lost it at the vet's.
I also got a number to call about changing Vino's microchip info, so I
will do that now.  Also, the verdict on his teeth is that he's fine, a
bit of plaque on the sides but nothing urgent and no infections.  So I
will hold off on a dental for a while longer.

Awww, glad it's over and he's on the mend now. He'll be good as new in
no time, and hopefully so will Meowmie!

Oh right, I'd forgotten that you have this reaction!  Apparently it
applies at the vet's too.  It might help to just try to think of the
cleaning as just cleaning and grooming, and push the memories of the
vet visit out of your head while you're doing it.  I'm glad that TED
said that Vino is healing up nicely.

Oh, I had to snicker at that because it sounds like me! I always have to
sit down if they do something yucky. I once spent about 15 minutes on
the vet's bathroom floor with my head down. That's interesting about the
tunnel vision. Everything goes white/smoky for me and I get tunnel hearing.

Makes me feel good when my advice was in sync with a vet. :) The small
pleasures of life...

Good luck with Vino. I'm glad you took him in. I'm sure you'll feel
relieved about it all when you get over the shock of the visit.

Hope he heals quickly,

Glad Vino is OK. Purrs for the medicating!

Glad that he's OK!!

I'm surprised that you didn't *hear* the cat fight even if you didn't
see it. Maybe that's not how he got the sore?

Well, it's cold outside, especially in the evenings.  So I keep the door
closed.  With the TV on I can't hear too much from the outside.  Also,
there are always bird sounds out there and I've started to tune them
out.  I might have heard a faint something and just thought it was the
birds again.  Who knows.  I have no other insights as to what else could
have caused the injury.

Most abscesses do heal up nicely, the one Luna had on the butt is
impossible to find now. :)

Lots of purrs for Vino to heal quickly and for you to be able to clean
up his wound.

And now you know why emergency rooms don't allow Mommies in the treatment
rooms with their children.  (Usually)

I'm glad Vino is on the mend.  Hope you recover soon as well.

So glad it sounds like something that can be easily treated, even if
it is yucky.  Purrs for a swift recovery and for your nerves!

Great news. Purrs for him to not figure out the pill is hidden, and
your nerves during the 7 days.
