I think he's gonna be OK. He's quit vomiting for the most part, and is very
interested in food again. It's been a major pain getting the pills into him.
Some cats are easy to pill but with Abelard it's pure hell, and then he's
afraid of me for a while afterwards, and seems to think every time I pick
him up he's gonna be forced to take more yucky stuff. Poor guy, he's had as
many health issues and vet care as all the other cats here combined.

I am very relieved to hear that - he was one I was also worried about
(besides Smudge) since I haven't been able to keep up with the group. HaPpY
dAnCiNg for both you, Joyce, Abelard and Smudge!

I'm so glad Abelard is coming along!!!
Roxie was a little so-and-so about the pills too. You might ask your vet for one
of those pill syringes: you stick the pill in the bottom, put the end in the
cat's mouth, and plunge it to the back of the mouth. For a lot of people, it's
finger insurance.
Also consider what we did for Roxie and Brandy with the antibiotics: ours were
capsules, so we undid the pill each dose time and mixed the powder in with a
blob of hairball remedy or a dab of butter, which we then smeared on the paw so
they'd have to lick it off. A regular pill you can crush with a little kitchen
mortar and pestle like you'd crunch herbs up with, they're only a couple of
bucks.
Blessed be,
Baha

Abelard won't eat anything that has a crushed pill in it, no idea how he
knows, but he knows!

Maybe it just tastes bad. When I've had to give medicines to Betty, I
would taste them myself to see what they were like. Her
anti-inflammatory had almost no taste to me, and she didn't seem to
mind it being crushed in her food. Some of her other medicines tasted
bitter to me, and she seemed to agree.

TED told me these pills supposedly are "seafood flavored". Yeah, right!

And very good finger insurance it is. I have to use one with Yoda. He
clamps down on fingers and won't let go. It's awkward at first, but
once you get the hang of using it, it works very well. (Still easier
with a helper tho)

It's good to hear that your Baby is returning to a healthy state.
Still, I recommend that you follow the Lady Singh's advice. I can
vouch for the fact that she has provided care for Roxie and Brandi
that goes well beyond the call of duty--and, before that, she and
hubby cared for The Ascendant Master Fritz in ways that still
leave me astounded. I can vouch for the fact that Fritz owed the
last five years of his life to their vigilance and nothing more.
If there is a trick or a craft to be known that will brighten or
lengthen the lives of The Master Race, the Lady Singh knows it!

I'm glad he's responding to the medication and feeling better. I always opt
for the pink stuff rather than pills. I have trouble getting any of mine to
take pills. Selena had nine teeth removed once - all at once - and was sent
home with pain killers. I diligently gave her her pain pills every six
hours for two days. On the third day I found a little pile of pills in the
corner of the hallway where she had been spitting them out after I turned my
back. Of course she always spits out the pink stuff at the same time she's
shaking her head and I end up with pink stuff everywhere.
We'll continue to send purrs for Abelard.
