Mrs Robin has suucessfully raised two chicks up to fledgling age. The chicks
went this morning. Two chicks to fledgling size from three eggs, laid in a
nest in open view at my waist height is not bad going.

At least now I can mow the lawn. And the felines will be pleased I'm not
following them around suspiciously everytime they go out into the garden ;-)

Cheers, helen s

AWWWW!  That's so cool!  A couple of years ago when John and I did an art
show in Kansas, there was a nest of sparrows up in the O of the dry cleaner
sign.  One day there were fledglings in the nest, chirping like mad.  The
next day they were on the ground, running around and with the crowds,
threatened to be stepped on by unwary people.  I kept herding them over to a
corner of the building (and thus earned the title of 'Bird Herder' LOL) and
the momma bird would come down and feed them bits of bread and so on.

I was so afraid of them being trampled by the passersby.  And of course the
kids who came by wanted to try to pick them up.  I told them the old myth
that their parents wouldn't come for them if they were touched by humans.
Not true, but kids aren't known to be gentle with little baby fledglings.

I don't know what happened to them.   We had to pack up and leave for the
night.  The next day, none of them were in site :)  I like to think they all
flew off together.

I'm very glad to hear it. Sadly, last week Baggy caught a fledgling Robin.

I now have the American version of a robin hopping around my yard,
and it really needs mowing (the yard of course). I sure hope it
learns to fly soon for that reason, and before a preditor gets it.
Yesterday during a rough storm it must have blown out of its nest.
It isn't old enough to fly yet, though it sure keeps trying! I was
happy to see today that it's still out there, though I don't know
where it went tonight.  My yard is fenced in, but I could tell
where the baby was by where the parents were. I wonder if one of
the parents stayed with it last night? I didn't think it would make
it through the night being on the ground, though it was a hot
night.
