Summer heat is upon us. Cinder and Rosie have staked out a couple of new
snoozing spots.
Cinder's new spot is on top of the cheap little Styrofoam cooler we have
sitting in the cabin to hold ice cubes. When we want a refreshing drink, we
scoop out a coup of ice and melted water.
Yesterday, the top broke underneath her and nearly dunked her in the ice
water. She's taken a liking to ice water, lately, and I can hardly put a
cup down without her putting her face in it for a drink. When we put ice
water in a bowl for her, she laps it up. But, I don't think she would
appreciate a dunking.
Jim put a flat plastic storage container top on the cooler and placed what's
left of the Styrofoam lid on top of that. Now, when we want a drink of ice
water, we have to inconvenience the cat, who is snoozing on the cooler.
Rosie discovered the freezer we have in a bedroom closet. We leave the door
open to the closet, and she finds that the little freezer is just right for
her napping place.
She can be undisturbed most of the time we are at anchor or on the dock
because we don't get into the freezer often. However, we securely close all
doors when under way. If we left the closet open, the door might swing shut
and close her inside.
Happy Independence Day to all of us who call the U.S. our country. I hope
that those in power and the rest of us take time to consider the purpose of
the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
This cruise has been such a great education about the founding of this
nation to visit these historical places.
This year, we will view the fireworks in Charleston, N.C.

How funny that she likes ice in her water. She's become a little
Southern belle.

Hi Tak,
I'm glad you're sticking around.
I suspect that next our Southern belle will demand a mint julep (not sure of
the spelling, being a Yank myself.) with a 'nip leaf garnish

I'm sticking around purely for selfish reasons. :) Everyone's
experiences with their kitties help me continue to experience a little
bit of that wonder that I used to feel.

Have a wonderful time. I'm thinking the fireworks there will be on a par
with Washington DC and Boston. (Poor cats)

Being on a boat full time has rendered them pretty tolerant of noises.
