Oops, I did it again.

Was running errands, and heading to the Goodwill to pick up a basket I
needed.  The curb got in my way, and the next thing I knew, I was
catapulted forward, unable to stop, and landed heavy on my right
elbow, right knee, and right ankle, twisting my back in the process.
I hurt all over today.

OB cats:  Katie is apparently my nurse.  She curled up with me last
night as I lay in bed and gently licked my face and hands, gently
headbutted and rubbed against my face, purring all the while, before
finally curling up as close to me as she could get.  Such a good
little nurse she is!

Yes, I definitely saw it!  It popped up in front of you, and your only self
defense was to attempt to squish it flat!

(I used the self defense clause when our door mat that we keep out on our
back walk, one of the thick bristly ones that's good for scraping mud and
other ickies off your shoes before you walk into the house, got mowed over
by me, on the riding mower.  The mat is a heavy one, and I thought it would
stay on the walk - uh-uh!  The twin blades of our little rider sucked it up
off the walk, and chopped some nice big holes in it (looks like Swiss cheese
now, but still useable).  DH came home and asked me what happened, I grinned
and said it leaped up at the mower, and the mower did the only thing it
could to defend itself :D)

My mom fell a few years ago and broke her tibia, very close to the
knee.  It took forever to recover and is still not "quite right."  But
I think my mom is quite a bit older than GL.  I've been gently
prodding her to go take yoga classes (she's already the member of a
wonderful rec facility), but she has this idea that because she's not
limber and doesn't have good balance, she shouldn't go.  Mom!  That's
the whole idea!

been ;-)

No offense taken.  I hope there's nothing like that.  If it gets
worse, I'll go see a doctor.  I'm pretty hardy, in spite of all my
problems.  Only broken one bone in my life, in spite of all my falls
and trips.

I'm so sorry!  That's a terrible feeling when you know you're falling and
can't do anything to prevent it.  The aches and pains are no picnic either.

I hope the aches and pains go away soon.  I also hope that, if any skin was
broken, you treated it with an antibiotic ointment.  If it starts hurting
more, go to a doctor!  My mother, who is in a long term care facility,
recently fell and skinned her elbow, among other things.  She was taken to
the adjoining hospital, where the elbow was treated and bandaged.  A week or
so later, the elbow started paining.  She told a nurse and they called the
doctor to look at it.  She had a staph infection in the injury.  For several
days, her visitors and the nurses and aides who helped her had to wear
gowns, masks and gloves.

Ouch -- that's terrible.  I guess I should put some on, although it's
probably too late by now.  I usually never have a problem with scrapes
and such healing okay.  Guess that's *one* thing I'm lucky on!

I would also mention that an infection is much more likely in someone
whose immune system is probably already weak (ie, an elderly person in
a long-term care facility) ... you're probably fine.

Not that it's not possible, but it's not something to worry about
unduly.

Been there, done that.  Quite a few times.

It does sound like you sort of know how to fall.  Don't fight it.  Tuck and
roll and try to land on your side.  Upper arm, hip and thigh can usually
take the punishment better than wrists and forearms.

I'm glad you have a nurse.  When I'm ill or have been away for a while, Jake
and Molly check on me just long enough to see if I can still fill a food
dish and a water bowl.

Oh goodness. That's awful. It's bad enough to fall like that (I've done
it before), but you try to get up quickly to retain a little dignity
and you're hurting so bad it's hard to even move! Purrs that you
recover soon.

I'm so sorry.  That's awful.  I'm so glad it sounds like nothing was
broken, though.

Are you able to take Aleve or Advil?  (Or the generics of course.)
They do wonders for me.  (Too bad I'm not supposed to take them
anymore.)

I found some Tylenol #3 I had left over probably from my last fall.

No.  With the whole financial crunch right now, I'm hoping I'm just
going to ache and whine for a few days and then be fine.  If it gets
worse, I'll go.

That is how I broke my hip some14 years ago -- just tripping on an uneven
sidewalk.  Purrs that your bruises heal fast.  MLB

Oh dear, GL!  Last week I indulged myself and went to a Mexican restaurant
just down the street for some take-out.  It was raining cats outside.  I
went outside and the curb jumped in front of me.  I went down heavily on my
right knee.  I still have a big bruise.  I'm blaming the curb and the rain
;)

Awwww, sweet little Katie nurse kitty!  Persia was more concerned with the
homemade chicken tamals and the white cheese dip with chips.  She's usually
a very a good nurse but not when there is chicken or cheese around and she
knows she can't have any!

Feel better, GL.

Ah, a curb jumped up and tripped me once, and broke my metatarsal.  I
was still (20 years ago) a spring chicken, too.  If you were a cat, you
would sit down, lick yourself casually, and say "I meant to do that."

And once a utility pole jumped right in front of my car!  They do that
in Japan because they are actually in the street rather than on the
side; the houses come right up to the street.

At least it wasn't a cat paw.

It's been a painful few days, but I am lucky in another way -- I have
a friend who is a professional massage therapist.

She came over last night, and ahhhhhhhhhh.  Some relief!  "Nurse"
Katie was on the floor next to the portable table, supervising, while
Jack was having fun checking out all the bottles and things Jennifer
put on *his* scratching post area.

Better today, and hopefully even better tomorrow.

Thanks, everyone, for the purrs!
