I Almost Lost Kate!

I am vigilant to the point of obsession about watching open doors and
making sure cats do not escape.  But I never thought about the window
. . . .

We have old-fashioned windows, with the old-fashioned wood and wire
screens that you just stick in and close the window on top of.  I am
just as vigilant about making sure that these are tight.

I was getting ready to feed the cats when I heard a very loud,
persistent meowing that sounded like a distress call from the porch.
I ran to the window, and saw a little orange-and-white cat there.  It
took me about one second to realize it was not a stray, but Katie,
sitting on a chair, meowing her little heart out.  I ran outside, and
she waited until I picked her up and brought her in.  I picked her up
and loved on her until she said "Hey!  Enough already!  I'm fine, and
want my dinner!"

Then I saw that the screen had somehow been slightly pushed aside,
which is how she must have gotten out.

This kitten rarely meows, but I'll tell you, when she wants to, she
has a BIG voice!

All were fed and treats were distributed all around, and eventually I
stopped shaking.

And Kate, of course, acts today like nothing ever happened.

Cats seem the be programmed to give us heart failure.  Even indoor only cats
with careful slaves.  Glad she only scared you and didn't worry you.

She may have an adventurous streak, but she knows where home is, and where
she belongs.

I know *exactly* how you feel. I'm very glad to hear she didn't stray far!
