Today, we left Georgia behind and crossed the Savannah River into South
Carolina.

It was a good thing we decided to stop at a marina instead of an anchorage
as originally planned.

When we tied up to the dock at Hilton Head Harbor, water was gushing out of
the drain hole for the bilge.  Jim went below and saw that the hose had
popped off and the water pump was emptying our water tanks into the bilge
for the bilge pumps to pump overboard.

If we'd continued to the anchorage, we could have discovered that we were
either short or out of water.

Normally, I would have noticed the problem sooner, but Jim had turned on the
generator and the air conditioner to keep the cabin comfortable for the
cats.  Each of these devices sucks in water from the channel and also has a
hole to pump out water, which acts as a coolant.  While Jim is driving, it
is one of my duties to look over the rail and make sure all the mechanical
things are pumping out water so that they will not overheat.

It had been so long since we were under way that I had forgotten which hole
was which, and reported to Jim that the generator was really doing a good
job pumping out the water after he cleaned the raw water intake filter.

Of course, Cinder was hollering for her treat as soon as we came to a stop.

I'm glad you caught that on time! Scritches to the Cabin Cats. My
Caliban was absolutely terrified during the boat trip to the island,
poor little boy. I hope he'll get more used to it in the years to come.

Marina,

I loved reading about how the kitties loved their first visit to the island.
I suspect that when Caliban starts to associate the boat trip with the
island that he will do better.

Although I was concerned about how they would take it as a lifestyle change,
Cinder and Rosie adjusted to living on a boat much faster and better than I
had anticipated.

Now, they don't even mind riding in the car.
