Why do we brush our cats?
Well there's the fact they like it. Sarrasine loves it but why do we do
it?
Just to keep the cat happy? Well as slaves we know the importance of
that
To check the coat for fleas etc etc. Okay yes that's useful
To remove loose hairs that would otherwise be ingested and cause
hairballs. That would be a great reason....Unless I can hide the brush
fast enough, Sarrasine eats the loose hair from the brush!
She's pretty determined to hoik something in my direction I think

I periodically combed mine rather than brushed them. I did this because of
this theory I have that combing will remove extra fur before it is
ingested to form hairballs which I will later step on. This is the same as
your last reason
But in fact, I do it mainly for your main reason: they (particularly
Betsy, now sadly RB) loved being combed, or at least, loved it as long as
the comb never approached delicate areas like the tummy.

I comb and brush TuTu to get rid of loose hair. I use a fine tooth comb
and a round Fuller brush. She loves to have her tummy combed and is
rather "indecent" the way she spreads out to I can reach every inch of
tummy and bottom. This is a nightly ritual. MLB

I keep telling my hubby we need to buy a brush for Miss Pua! She's gotten
so fluffy, that to pet her is like inviting a fur coat on yourself. I now
am going to emphasize the fact that we need one. I'd bet she'd love it.

Huh, and as a rubber gadget it really removes hair? Where does the hair go?

I have a rubber brush that has more, closer-packed "bristles" than the zoom
groom, and it really works well getting the loose hair off the cat (they
also sell this as a "lint" brush or pet hair remover). But the problem is
that it just throws the hair into the air, you have a hard time even trying
to collect it in your hand as it is removed from the cat. So it gets the
hair off the cat really well, but it only makes the "cat hair on everything
and in the air" problem much worse.
I'd like to know if the zoom groom has the same problems before buying one.

It isn't perfect, but I think the Zoom Groom is the best I've ever used as
far as collecting and trapping the fur it removes.
I'm guessing why the cats are so crazy about it is the really long
"bristles" give them a good scratching and really dig out the undercoat.
But are soft enough not to do any damage.
Of course, I still prefer to brush outside. ;~}'

I got a Zoom Groom for my cats just a week or two ago. There's no problem
with it sending hair into the air, it collects between the long rubber
spines and you just stop every few strokes (if it's the first time you've
ZG'd your cat ;-) ) and remove it with your fingers.
Kitty FC loves it. She purrs her tiny head off while its going on. Even
though I groom her regularly with a steel comb I got a "lot" of loose hair
out of her the first time I used it. I just do her a 2-3 times a week now.
It's a bit too "in yer face" for Boyfie just yet. Due to his shyness and
reticent nature he's only used to very gentle pettings and the first time I
tried to groom him with it he fell to the floor under it. He still let me
do it though and I will persevere slowly with him. He hardly sheds so it's
no big deal.
If you have cats that are confident and enjoy being petted from head to tail
with your hand, I feel they would like it. Those who do elevator butt would
be in heaven!

I have to say that when I use the zoom groom it loosens CLOUDS of hair
and pulls them up to the top of the fur, but there they stay until I
gather them up with my hand or with the regular comb. I usually
combine them - use the zoom groom for a few minutes and get a nice
'raft' of loose hair towards their rear, then sweep it up with the
metal comb. That is if they'll hold still long enough for me to finish
the sweep - Silver tends to walk away shedding as she goes!

Nina just looks bewildered by the Zoom Groom. Francesca acts as if she
suspects waterboarding is next. She curves her body AWAY from the Zoom
Groom. Even for being a notoriously flexible cat, the contortions she
goes through to avoid being touched by it are remarkable!

It works well with confident cats, but for others it takes some etting used
to. As I said before, Kitty thinks its great but it scares Boyfie a bit
still. The long rubber fingers get right down to the skin and he is not up
for such personal contact just yet.
I'll just groom him very lightly with it once a week until he realises it's
okay.
I don't think he was wild/feral for very long but it sure messed his head
up.

I find the Zoom Groom is not bad for throwing off hair as most of the
hair is either between the bristles, or sitting atop the cat's coat and
can be removed with your hand. However, I do find that whatever shirt
I am wearing at the time tends to get covered in hair, so I like to
brush them after weight lifting, right before I change my shirt anyway
:)
I groom ours mostly so Kumani won't get so many hairballs from licking
herself and her sister, and I groom Pokey Smokey cause he luvs it. Nox
leaves black hair on her cat tree, chair and my pillow, btu that's more
easily vaccuumed off or put in the wash....Nox hates being brushed,
she's convinced that her tongue is far superior to anything made by the
naked ape creatures.

I brush Frank a lot because I figure that the more hair that ends up in
the brush is that much less hair that ends up on other stuff. He's a
real shedder. Seriously, though, I think brushing is a really good
bonding exercise too, and I just love that look of sheer nirvana he
gets on his little Siamese face.

Persia isn't a Siamese but the vet thinks she has some in her :) She gets
this look on her face when I'm brushing her and she starts practically
drooling! She loves being brushed! How did I know this foundling would
like that? I don't know. I never had a cat before but when I went out to
buy a litter box and stuff I also picked up a brush. And there you have it.
When I take the brush out of the drawer, she's in my lap like white on rice.
Ooooh! Mama! Brush me! She loves it. She rolls into it. I put it on the
floor and she rolls all over it. Brush me!! LOL

I brush Molly and Jake because we all enjoy it. And because if I want to
get them in all I have to do is sit outside near the driveway holding a
brush. They will run right up to me for that.

Well, at the moment I've been brushing them to provide nesting material for

I also save the lint from the lint catcher on my dryer (which usually has a
lot of cat hair in it) to put outside for bird nest construction (it makes
good insulation in a nest).

Persia sees the brush in my hand and climbs up and just wants to be brushed.
She loves it. It's like being stroked but a bit more... harsh? Brush
brush, brush. She adores being brushed. She turns from side to side, yes,
now get me over here! Her tail, yes, brush me! Why, you ask? Because it
feels good!

Tippy and Smokey both love to get brushed. When I brush Tippy and he feels that
I have not brushed him enough he chases after me and grabs ahold of my leg with
his front paws.
