For some reason, my computer room at home is infested with a number
(and wide variety) of bugs. There are a couple of medium-sized moths,
including a very fat-bodied one that looks like a small hummingbird,
a number of very small flying things, some sort of long, reddish
beetles (two of them), and a jumping type insect, some kind of cricket
I guess.
Smudge is completely uninterested. I pointed them out to her, she
glanced at one briefly, yawned, and walked off. I guess she gets
enough entertainment going outside every day.
Roxy's interested, but not very effective as a hunter. She's watching
them closely, occasionally batting at them, but so far, I haven't
noticed a single casualty.
And where is Licky?? He's the real hunter around here. But right now
he's in the other room, lazing it up on the living room floor. Get in
here, boy! Your services are requested!

Sounds like you need Phoenix! Unlike Memphis, he actually eats his insects,
and if it were too large, Memphis would run away!

They are not earning their keep! They are falling down on the job!
What do they think, that they're gonna get a free ride through life or
something?!?
I think the time has come for you to have a little talk with them, up
close.

Tyche sounds like Chloe and Tyrone. They're always on constant bug patrol.
I don't have to worry about bug spray! :~) I'll rent mine out cheap for
you, too. Between my two and Tyche, they'll have that room cleaned out in a
snap.

I guess her rates *are* reasonable if she's willing to get paid
in bugs! :)

LOL - I've tried, believe me! Smudge and Roxy just look bored, and
if I have even the slightest, tiniest hint of disciplinary tone in
my voice, Licky runs off. I mean even if I'm just joking! He's
exquisitely tuned to potential trouble.
However, after I got off the computer, I left the lights on so they
(er, I mean, *he*) could hunt moths, etc, in peace. Judging by the
vastly reduced numbers of insects in here this morning, I'd have to
say I spoke too soon. I guess Licks wanted to hunt the bugs, but
got intimidated by all the commotion in here.
Oh, and I figured out why there was an insect party in here to begin
with, duh. Two big holes in the screen!! This is one of those screens
you stick in the window only when it's open, that adjusts to the width
of the window. And they're not really holes - the edges of the screen
are torn away from the wooden frame. Gee, how could *that* have happened?

Persia is a great bug eater. I'd send her over there but at this time of
year bugs come in when I open the door. I let her chase them down and kill
them; it's her "job". But you really don't want Palmetto bugs (huge flying
cockroaches) in your house. One time I looked at Persia after she'd chased
one and just about threw up when I saw legs hanging out of her mouth. Yeah,
she was eating it. Nice crunchy snack. EWWWW Don't you dare come kiss me,
Persia!
The only bugs I don't mind are potato-bugs (roly-polies). I just toss them
outside. Got terrible problems here with wolf (cave) crickets getting in my
bathroom. Regular crickets don't bug me, except when they chirrrrrh all
night. But these things are just disgusting.

I just call Persia, "hey, there's a hoppy bug in here!"and she runs and
plays with them until they give up. She doesn't eat them, but she plays
with them until they just give up :) Then I find corpses around the house.
Mostly I find them in my outside storage room during the summer. Sometimes
I leave the door open so the wild birds that eat insects can have a hey-day
:)
