Last night Smokey came in from the garage with a chipmunk in his mouth. Dennis
tried to get him back in the garage so he could let it go but Smokey wasn't
about to do that. He ran down in the basement with it and let it go. I went
down and Smokey and Tippy had him cornered near the outside door so I propped
it open about two inches hoping the chipmunk would go out. He had other ideas
and ran to the other side of the basement. At that point I wasn't sure exactly
where he was so I left the door part way opened and when back up stairs. After
dinner we went back down to see if he had gotten out yet. When he heard us
talking he started chirping very loudly, I'm sure he was saying HELP ME, HELP
ME! I found him in the folding lawn chair. I held the opening closed and took
him outside and let him go. A few minutes later we heard him chirping very
loudly again. We looked out and saw the neighborhood cat had caught him, so
Dennis ran out and chased the cat away (he dropped the chipmunk and he ran
off). Poor little guy was not having a good day.

Poor thing. Hopefully it will have learned to avoid cats.

Do you suppose Smokey was trying to rescue him by bringing him inside?
It definitely sounds like he was safer inside than out.

The difference between the men and the boys in politics is, and always
has been, that the boys want to be something, while the men want to do
something.

Not sure about that with 4 cats in the house. He has caught them before and
brought them in and released them. He never kills, just plays with them. The
chipmunk came in the garage through the space between the garage door and the
frame. We don't let our cats outside.

This happened at my house too, and it was wild. Gracie was peering intently
under the couch in my office for so long that I finally got some help and
had
it lifted up "so she could see there was nothing there." There was the
cutest
chipmunk, hunkered down and trying to be invisible! Much hilarious chasing
ensued, with the chipmunk diving under a bed and both cats going after him,
and me following screaming "Gracie, NO!! NOOO!" He wound up behind
my nightstand so I got the cats out of there and let him calm down. But some
one opened the door and he disappeared. He had come in through the
ductwork, so I assume that is how he got out. We have at least one family
of them living in the back yard and one in the front. They are precious.
