Another picture of Caliban sleeping - again!

Marina - 17 Jun 2006 11:27 GMT Heh, I don't know how many pictures I've taken of Caliban sleeping, but here's another one. I guess I can't believe the cuteness. ;o) The difference here is that he's not sleeping on my bed, he's on my chair, and I had just finished brushing his tummy fur (he didn't move a muscle while I was doing that!) so the spots are very clearly set off.

Marina - 18 Jun 2006 06:50 GMT > Awww, handsome boy! I just want to reach over and tickle his tummy! Thank you. The nice thing is, he likes having his tummy rubbed. He even lets me bury my face in that soft tummy fur. He just stretches out and purrs. :o)

I've tried, and I just can't handle a toy and the camera at the same time. Luckily my niece came over with her camera, so we got a little evidence that the cats do play once in a while.

Hey, at least with a digital camera, you don't have to wonder what the people at the developing lab are saying about you. :) I gave the Fotomat people a lot of Roxy and Smudge pictures when I had an analog camera! :)
> :oP I know I'm glad that I have all the pictures of Frank and Nikki now. That's right - take pictures while you can. I only have two pictures of Silkie, the beloved cat I had from 1979-82, and they're both lousy Polaroid pictures where you can't really see her face very well. I really regret that now.

I also agree with Adrian. I wish I'd taken more pictures of our other cats when we were owned by them. I don't think it's the pictures you take you regret (at least most of the time), it's the ones that you didn't take and should have.

You might rethink that when one of your kids asks you to scan their childhood snapshots for the makings of a wedding video.

Does she look more like a regular cat to you nowadays, now that you're more used to her?
It reminds me of when I first got Betty. It felt so strange having this creature following me from room to room, particularly since I'd never had a cat before, and I'd lived alone since I was young.

Sometimes she still looks like an Alien aka Spacecat to me, but mostly I just see her as a very beautiful and dainty girl. It must be hard to get used to Betty not following you around. I know it's been hard to get used to not having Frank on the pillow by my head anytime I lay down on the bed.

Really, it feels like another life, a different life. But sometimes I think that maybe it's for the best. She isn't here to follow me anymore, but the last time she followed me, she was put in a carrier and whisked off to her execution. She should have bit and scratched and run away. But they're always so loving and trusting...

I know nothing will take away that feeling of guilt, even though you know you did the right thing for her. Frank was so loving and trusting that last day. We took a nap and he curled up beside me purring and headbutting. Then the vet came and I held him while she gave him the sedative, and later the final IV. Sometimes I wonder how I can live with myself after betraying him like that.
As for feeling like a different life. It is so strange isn't it. Last year I was Frank's and Nikki's Meowmie, and I had been for years and years and years. Now suddenly, I'm someone else: I'm Miranda's and Caliban's Meowmie. That has to be a completely different person, doesn't it? I'm sure there are many people who would say that I identify with my cats much too much, but to me, they're my family. How would people feel if they suddenly had a whole different set of children? Or parents (well, that happens, of course)?

Not to make light of your post, but wouldn't one be more likely to end up with a new set of children than a new set of parents? Not that either is particularly likely, but how could you get new parents?
I certainly understand cats being your family. I've lived alone for 7 years, in terms of other humans, that is, but not really alone since I've had plenty of feline company. They are definitely my family!!

What I meant was with people divorcing and remarrying etc people get lots of new relatives all the time - children, parents, grandparents, aunts...

That's exactly how it was. I think it was much harder than we really expected. There was no point when we "knew" it was time. No point when they "told" us. No point when they were unaware of their environment. No point when they disengaged. There was just one day like any other day, and we made it the last day because we dictated that it be so. And that makes it that much more difficult to accept.
