Spot on her nose

Mayhem's been developing a little black spot on her nose.  I first
thought it was dirt, but it wouldn't wipe away.  I wasn't sure what it
was, and have been keeping an eye on it.

It hasn't gotten aby bigger, but it hasn't gotten away either.
Hmmmmmmm.......  My books don't really say much about skin cancer, and
I haven't found much on the web.  I called my clinic and unfortunately
we are booked tomorrow.  The receptionist mentions that cats might
develop spots as they get older.

I'm gonna call back later to talk to one of my coworkers who's been an
RVT for the last 20 years, and see what she thinks.

She's not an outdoor cat so i don't think it could be skin cancer, but
i can't be sure.  And on the other hand, i don't qualify for my
employee discount yet.  But something like this I would want to get a
vet's opinion on just in case.

Anyone else have cats with spots that just show up?

How old is she?  All my pets that have had spots have developed new ones for
several years.  Often they are just spots on the skin and don't appear on
the fur so we don't even notice them.  Kinda kitty and puppy freckles.

Well.......

She came to me as a stray last year, and even then i couldn't tell how
old she was.  She had dirty teeth which seemed to have come from age.
I guessed her age about 5-6.

Then in March when i got her teeth cleaned i asked the doctor about her
age and his guess was about the same, maybe even as young as 3-4.  So
i'm calling her 4-5 therabouts

Cats can get skin cancer... my grandma's white cat had to have half of
both ears removed because she insisted on lying outside in the sun at
midday... if Mayhem doesn't spend lots of time outside I don't think
it could be her problem - it might just be a freckle or mole... Tessie
has a tiny little darker spot on the inside of one of her ears.

Vino's been getting dark spots on his pink lips as he gets older.  I
heard somewhere it's normal.  Purrs for that to be all it is with
Mayhem.

Peter's former vet said that all orange cats develop black spots on
their lips and in their mouths as they age.  Peter's got a bunch of
them.

Several of my kitties with pink noses have gotten black "freckles"  but
they never turned into anything.  I think it might be like people, and
we get freckles, moles and (sigh) age spots over the years.

Like Britta's Vino, The Stripey Thing has been getting black spots on
his pink lips starting from the time he was about two.  They aren't
anything in him.  Just black spots.  He has a couple of white whiskers
that turned black too.  He's 4.5 years old now.

Hi Bridget!!  How are you and the owners doing?  We haven't heard from
you in a while.  Please check in and let us know how you are doing.  We
all love and miss you.
