Micha - 16 Jun 2006 07:10 GMT Hello, we greet all cat people in this group.
After having accomplished a major overhaul of our website - especially the section with the cat pics - which Blacky and Merlin now regard as presentable to a certain degree, my cat masters instructed me to introduce us here.
I was lurking around for a while and kept in mind, that cat pics are very much wanted here. You will find plenty of them (and more) on our site.
O.k., here we are:
http://www.curschmann-sachsen.de
My cat masters already pointed out some little discrepancies to me and I am working on an update (but the implementation of their ideas will require a serious in-depth discussion with my layout program ;-) )
The representation of the second species - which is present in our household to a certain degree - is planned to be extended as well.
And some photo albums with (paper-) cat pics from several years (in the region of a high three-digit number *<sigh>* ) are scheduled for processing. Hope, me and the old scanner will endure that. ;-)
See you Michael, by order of Blacky and Merlin

Great site! I like how it's laid out. And **cuuuute kitties**!!! It'll take a while for me to get through all of it, but I'm sure that will be a very enjoyable journey. I just wish I understood German.
Welcome!

For now the cat slaves are covered in "Kater und Mensch" (= "Tomcat and Man"). Perhaps, if my masters allow, they will get a section of their own.

Ducks?!? Hehe, just kidding, I used to be German and I know you're talking about Frogs. But English speaking frogs say "ribbit". I know, it's odd ;-) Great website, very cute kitties!

Your owners are lovely and your website is very well done. I think you'll like us in here, or at least most of us. I'm Pam S. owned by the seven Fayetteville North Carolina cats, Tanada, QC, Merlin, Pine Cone, Huey, Sonya and Qui Gun Kit.
What part of Germany do you live in? My husband was stationed at landsthul, with Medevac from 1990 to 1992. He fell in love with Germany and wants to go back and visit someday.

We live in Saxony, which is a state in former East Germany. The nearest big city is Chemnitz, but Dresden and Leipzig (which are better known) are not far away - actually Chemnitz is about half way between them.
Here are some links of the region we are living in:
Here you can get information about the state of Saxony. This site is available in English.
http://www.sachsen.de/
Here you can get information about the city of Chemnitz. This site is available in English, too.
http://www.chemnitz.de/
Here you can get information about the town of Niederwiesa (small town, about 6.000 inhabitants near Chemnitz), where we live. I'm afraid, this site is not available in English.
http://www.niederwiesa.de/
Saxony has a lot of nice places to go, so if you ever get close, give us a call.

Is that near Zwönitz? That's where my mom is from. But her family got out before the wall went up, when she was around 10. I was born and grew up near Munich, but we emigrated to Canada when I was 10. My mom is actually in Germany right now, for the first time since 1982. She last emailed me from Berlin, saying she was headed to Dresden, then Zwönitz. I bet she will be amazed at how much has changed! I'm very proud of my mom for going, my dad was against it, so she just went by herself.

I bet she will be amazed at how much has changed! Well, there were tremendous changes in the eastern part of Germany since 1989.
Positives: Buildings were refurbished, streets repaired, new roads built and you now can buy everything (which wasn't the case before 1989).
Negatives: shortly after 1989 most industrial jobs got lost and "the east" of Germany still has not recovered from this and many people - especially the younger ones - headed to former "West Germany" just to get a job. In Saxony the unemployment rate is between 14% to 19%, and we can count ourselves lucky, because there are still some big companies producing here (Volkswagen, Porsche, BMW and even AMD, making microchips in Dresden).

I'm impressed by your mom, too, considering what I've heard of your dad and how controlling he can be. Good for your mom! I hope she's having a great trip.

I was born [quoted text clipped - 11 lines] > > Joyce Well, she came to Thailand by herself to visit us too, a couple of years ago. It's weird, my parents have always travelled a lot, they lived in South Africa for a couple of years before I was born, and also lived in France when I was a baby. But as they have gotten older, my mom still wants to travel but my dad has lost all interest. He claims it would be a hassle, etc. All sorts of excuses. Of course he doesn't want my mom to go alone because he has insecurities about her not coming back. Silly. She always comes back and he becomes super loving and affectionate and helpful around the house for a few months after. It definitely does him good that she goes away. We'll see what happens when she wants to come visit us in Australia. Will he come too, or won't he?!?

If my traveling by myself had that sort of effect on Charlie, I'd be wearing out my passport.
I guess in a way it does. He will talk more on the phone when I'm out of town that he would if I were here.

In that case, I'd be gone every couple of months, then more often if necessary.

My grandpa lived in Leipzig. He had to stay behind when my grandma and the kids, except for their oldest daughter, fled the country when the war started. Chemnitz used to be known with a different name too...

Chemnitz used to be known with a different name too... Well, yes. Very shortly after the German reunion the city changed its name from "Karl-Marx-Stadt" back to Chemnitz. So when I first visited Chemnitz in late 1991 the city still was very dirty from more than 40 years of neglection - but they had brand new signs in shiny yellow proudly stating "Chemnitz" at the city borders ;-)
Downtown there is still a big brass monument of Karl Marx, about 5 meters (15 ft) high. There was a somewhat heated debate about removing it but the town council finally decided not to do so - they did not want to remove the only thing which attracts tourists from US and Japan... ;-)

Will do. if we ever get free of Veterans Administration's version of H*ll. The first place Rob wants to MAC is Germany. I told him that the rest of Burope needs to be included in that trip. I really want to visit Finland, Slovenia, Posnin (my ancestors are from there) Britain, Scotland, and any other point in the area we can think of.
