I had to take Sugar to the vet yesterday. More GI trouble. It happened
suddenly. Fine one minute, ate lunch and usually she goes poo then. Well,
suddenly she was hiding and when I found her she was half sitting under the
bed and meowing at me frantically. So, called the vet for a drop off (I hate
those but of course they were full) and popped her into the carrier. The vet
called about 4 and had given her a rectal (sorry, graphic to follow) and
helped her get a very hard bolus out and then gave her an enema but wanted
to keep her over night to make sure she "went". I haven't heard yet this
morning. If she went I think she can come home,b ut if not they will take
xrays. Poor girl :(

Pearl was just a little off last night. Pretty clingy. I think she missed
Sugar! I sure did. It's amazing what a large place a little 9 lb. cat takes
up in a home. We even went to bed a bit early because it was boring :(  I
hope I get my little Sugar back soon.

Poor little girl. She must have been very uncomfortable. Hope all is
well and you get her back home. I hate it when one of them is overnight
at the vet's. You're right, it leaves a big hole in the house (even
when you have four more).

Poor Sugar.  I'm sure she was quite miserable.  Lots of purrs that she is
now all better and only in need of repair to her dignity.

Purrs for Sugar.

And yes, I have learned to treasure the litterbox treasure, even if I
don't feel like digging for treasure ATM, because it's so much worse
when they aren't going.

That's a relief for poor Suggie!  You know, you're quite amazing.  I
don't think I would ever notice if a cat missed a poo.

With Betty, I gave her largish litter boxes, and she liked to bury,
and liked privacy when she "went", so I never had much of an idea what
her schedule was like.

WEll, not really. When the sit there all half huddled like they want to go
and then look at you and meow with panic in their eyes, you pretty much know
something is up.

Sugar is more private than Pearl but I see them both, as their "favorite"
box is in the bathroom and they often come in to do business when I am in
there.

Hooray for poop! I'm so glad Sugar's on the mend!

We had a constipation scare with Fritzie some years back, and the vet gave us
a bottle of vile-smelling laxative to give him. Three days, no go. The vet
said one more day, if still no go then bring him in for an enema. Day four,
we dose him and Louie takes me to work. Hubby-pie came home to find a gas
meter guy come for a readin, so Louie took him to the basement...and cat
nasties EVERYWHERE!!! Fritzie must have let go of a good twenty turdlings all
over the cellar. I'm told that Louie flipped his turban, and had one heluva
time explaining to meter guy about the laxative.

Still purring for Sugar and her troubled tummy, and glad she's, um, moving
along.

Blessed be,
Baha

I think I spoke too early. She still seems to get uncomfortable at times.
REALLY trying to get her on all wet food in hope this will keep everything
softer.

Did the vet suggest soft food as a softener?  I wonder.  I would
imagine fiber would be helpful for that, and wet food would have less
fiber than dry, no?

Vet said add benefiber but I'm getting mixed signals in research abuot
adding fiber to cats diet. I think moisture is a big thing. She is eating
way more canned food. I found two poops from her today. Better than I have
seen . I'm really hoping wet food does it. She drinks a lot when she is
eating more dry, but I am finding that dry + a lot of water doesn't seem to
be the same thing as just eating wet food.

True, drinking water will pass through the renal system (the kidneys), but
some of the moisture in canned food will pass through the intestines and
helps soften the stool.

Well, she grooms quite a bit. That doesn't help. I am going to try adding
fiber to see if we can get the stool to soften up. Wish us luck!

What about hairball remedy? Doesn't the petroleum help grease things
along, so to speak?

Good luck purrs!

Yes, but Sugar appears to have a problem with hard stool more than needing
it greased she needs is softened.
