So much for the Sucky Monster

I was vacuuming last night, which is a rare occurrence.  Yeah, as much
as I love my Dyson, it's lucky to get used twice a month. I am *not*
a housekeeper by any stretch of the imagination.  But I digress....

Rita climbed on the couch and watched the Sucky Monster with great
interest. Whenever it got close to her, she just reached out to touch
it with her paw.  And that's it.  No running, no hiding, no misery.
She is the most fearless cat I've ever seen.  She even sits in the
window to watch thunder and lightening, looking over her shoulder
once in awhile as if to say, 'Did you see that?  Cool!'

Speaking of Dysons... I just bought one and we're not impressed. I
noticed it has all kinds of detachable pipe parts, perhaps one of those
is loose? Any pointers to get the best of his expensive vaccuum cleaner
would be most appreciated.

I'm glad to see you post this, Victor. I got a demo at a store and I
thought it looked like it had an inordinant amount of gagdgets. All I
ever use is a couple of basic hand attachments.
Just for my info., what is it you're not impressed about? And what is
it that makes it an "animal" vaccum? Does it vacuum hair better, or is
it just because of all those extra gadgets? Is it heavy to push?
I paid big bucks many years ago for a Kirby and hated it. It was heavy,
like pushing a tank, hard to convert to hand tools, and so highly
over-rated. I swore I'd never buy another high-dollar vacuum unless I
was sure I would like it.
Thanks
Sherry

It doesn't seem to vaccum as much stuff as our previous one.

I think the difference (besides color and price) is the attachments. As
far as I know, they all have the same motor. It is very light, that's
the thing Tom likes best about it.

That's odd.  Our Animal is the "suckiest" vacuum I've ever seen.
Although we do have to empty the canister pretty frequently.  We love
ours.  And we don't use most of the attachments very often either (but
it's kinda convenient to always have them right in/by/on the vacuum when
you want one).  The little flat head one works wonders on Missy's chair.

The canister isn't as big as the average bag?  I have to admit that's
true.  I have to empty the canister many more times then I ever had
to change a bag.  But they're working on that 'problem'.  Otherwise,
I love the extreme suction.B

I've used lighter, but not better.  The 'animal' vacuum comes with
gadgets that make it easier to pick up animal hair everywhere, so they
say.  Quite frankly, I've never used them yet. If I had a low couch,
I might have, but I don't.

I can't recommend Electrolux (tank model only) highly enough. But don't put
out the big bux for a new one, they last forever, you should be able to find
a good used or rebuilt one in the paper or at a shop.

Also, if you get an Electrolux, don't buy the "official" Electrolux bags.
There are other bags that will fit it and are just as good and much cheaper.

I wonder if Electrolux makes an upright now. Cannister vacs are so
awkwaqrd to drag around and to store.  You can just pop an upright into
the closet to store it, but with the cannisters, you've got that long
hose, wand, and tank to deal with.
The best vac I've had so far is the Hoover Wind Tunnel WRT suction and
simplicity of changing to hand tools. DH over-hauled it a couple days
ago and it seems good as new for now.

Yes they do make an upright. But stick with the tank, it sucks much better!

You stand the tank on end for storage, it takes less space than any upright,
and hang the hose up. The wand breaks down into small sections.

Hose pops on and off business end of tank. Wand pops on and off end of hose.
Tools pop on and off end of wand. Couldn't be simpler.

Sorry to hear that!  Mine went together nicely, and nothing is loose,
so it's working okay for me. Is yours not sucking  well enough? Check
your paperwork, there's got to be a phone number somewhere. Or take it
back to where you bought it.  The Dyson cost enough $$$ that they'd
BETTER guarantee it works!  I got mine at Bed, Bath & Beyond (at
20% off!), and BBB guarantees it.

You always could get a Shop-Vac.  They're not pretty, but they do pick
up what is on the floor.

Why are you not impressed with it?  Maybe is faulty in some way?  My Dyson
is absolutely brilliant.  I have the cylinder one, so I can't help if you
have an upright.
Mine would suck *me* up if I stood in its way :-)   It's years old now but
providing I get new filter every couple of years (and brush or rinse them in
between) it cleans my house like no other vac I've ever had.
And it's so satisfying to see the dust and cat hairs spin around in the
cylinder as you go along..

Vino is like that.  He doesn't mind the vacuum.  He is definitely
fascinated by it though.  He follows me around from a distance of maybe
2 meters and watches.  But I can easily grab him and vacuum him too.  It
removes quite a bit of loose hair.

Snoopy hates the sucky monster, Baggy just gets annoyed by it. I don't
vacuum until I have to.

Cali likes to watch the lightning too, doesn't even mind getting wet. But
the Purple Snake (vacuum) is a whole 'nother story.

We did have a crazy Tomcat when I was young, who loved to be vacuumed. :)
