Sunday we had a cook-out with Dennis's daughter, her boyfriend, thier two
daughters and his ex-wife. While we were sitting outside Tippy was sitting
looking out the music room door looking sad and weowing. I went in and got him,
put him on his leash and brought him outside. He was wondering around the yard
when something suddendly spooked him and he started growling and hissing, so I
attempted to pick him up to bring him inside. Not a good idea, he jumped up and
sunk his claws in my hand and wrist. I had Dennis go get a beach towel which I
dropped over him and picked him up. I carried him back to the house, he was
totally freaked out, screaming and hissing all the way. As soon as I walked in
the house he was fine. I sat him down and petted him and he started purring,
then he picked up the leash in his mouth and took it into the other room. He
did a real number on my hand, a short while later my hand was very swollen, I
had to get up in the night and put an ice pack on it to reduce the swelling. I
went to the doctor Monday and he prescribed an antibiotic for 5 days. Don't
think I'll be taking him out again. :-)

Not up to date, I told them that but they didn't seemed concerned. My biggest
fear was nerve damage as one of the scratches was more like a deep cut. Nerve
damage would be devastating for a piano player even a mediocre player such as
myself. Tippy would not have an accompanist any more. The swelling has gone
down quite a bit today but is still quite sore.

Hmmm, were I you I think I'd have a tetanus anyway - unless you're allergic
it can't hurt and it can protect you for up to 7 years from other scrapes,
cuts, and scratches.  I have a cat who is a biter and I keep mine
up-to-date.  The two times I was scratched/bitten when I'd hadn't been
up-to-date the doctors advised me to have one.

That happened with my cat Amigo the one time I took him out on a leash. I
went back inside, however and put my leather bomber jacket and leather
gloves on first before taking him in. Same thing. Became perfectly calm. We
did not go outside again.
