I need three more cats like I need a toothache, so guess what I'm picking up Friday after work. Well, kittens actually - nine-week old red tabby kittens: two males and one female. The mother is also red tabby, rather large, well disposed, and pretty. The last time I saw a female red tabby kitten was thirty years ago when the calico feral I was trying to make friends with suddenly demanded to come in, looked the place over, went out and came back three times with a red tabby and white kitten in her mouth - all three of which turned out to be females. These appear to be pure red tabby, no white.  SignatureT.E.D. The kittens will have to be almost entirely indoors until they can manage the 38 inch diagonal leap required to use the coon and possum proof cat flap. SignatureT.E.D. It turned out that they didn't know how rare female red tabbies are, or even that they are called red tabbies. The ad read " 8 week old kittens - 01:36 pm, 6 June, 2006 For Free: 2 male and 1 female, orange striped kittens, free to good home.Very sweet and adorable. Please call xxx-xxx-xxxx, please, we need a home!" (Phone number obscured). It turned out that I drive past their house nearly every Thursday, so I had no trouble finding it. Actually, most of my cats were found through "Grapevine" ads (<http://shopping.rollanet.org/cgi/index.cgi?mode=view&viewcategory=Pets_and_Anima ls_-_Cats>) SignatureT.E.D. I have twelve now, and I'm doing good if two of them are inside to sleep with me at night. In the summer, twelve indoor/outdoor (mostly outdoor) cats ae not enough - in winter, maybe too many. My late aunt had a beautiful, bright, clear red tabby girl named Biscuit. She was very shy with people, and destroyed birds, moles, voles and mice like a little Terminator.
