... according to Baggy. I had a new door fitted a couple of days ago and
that meant fitting a new cat flap, the new one is identical to the one in
the old house so Snoopy has no problem with it. Because it's different,
Baggy is slightly afraid of it, he can go out alright but says he can't get
back in, he just sits outside the door looking pathetic. The flap into the
summer house, where shadow lives, is the same as the old one, so Baggy has
no trouble going in and out of there to steel Shadow's food. Shadow doesn't
seem bothered. ;-)

Could you prop it open for a few days so he gets used to going out and in?
Maybe after that he'll feel confident enough to push it. Just an idea from
someone who doesn't have a cat door! I've resisted having one up to now as
my back door (solid oak, stable door type) was extremely expensive and I
haven't quite got into the frame of mind to have a cat door put in it/
Instead I leave it slightly open 24/7.
Yes, yes, I know this isn't wise. It's pretty safe here though (she says.)
I first left my back door open when I worked too far away to get back at
lunchtime to toilet my dogs. It worked very well.
It works well for the cats, too, up to now <fingers crossed> it has been
completely safe to leave my door open for 20 years-ish.

I hope it continues to be safe, unfortunately the less desirable elements of
our population now have easy access to transport and tend to target more
isolated dwellings.
As for the flap, I'm keeping it open with a peg during the day. I keep Baggy
in at night so he can't catch thre birds at dawn, when I feel they're at
their most vulnerable. I just went to call him in, he's not around yet but
the hedgehog is here having his nightly snack of peanuts. :-)

LOL, poor Baggy. I hope he figures out the cat flap works both ways soon.
