I'm a bit concerned because Nocturne is not a very active cat. She
spends the days curled on the bed--not moving for 9 hours or more--the
evenings with us, the nights asleep at our feet.
She will not play with us. If we dangle toys in front of her she has
no interest. I have seen her playing on rare occasions, but if she
sees me watching her she will walk away from the toy and immediately
ignore it.
The kittens chase and wrestle each other, and Smokey is really into
toys and roughhousing. Nocturne wants nothing to do with any of it.
She seems athletic when she so chooses--she can easily leap to the top
of our four-foot cat furniture, and chase down the kittens--but most
of the time she just lies there and bites you if you disturb her.
Should I be worried, or is this natural for her?
The vet says she is the ideal weight.

How old is Nocturne again?

Sounds just like the Solange comic postd here, just a bit ago.

Nocturne is three and a half.
She's been like this pretty much since age 2.

Then I wouldn't worry about it. When Friskie (BR) was still around she
was pretty much a bed fungus. For years and years. It wasn't due to a
health problem, she was just an inactive cat.

Like othe folks have said, I wouldn't worry since this is normal
behaivor for her. My LB has been that way, mostly napping with an
ocassional bout of chase/wrestling with Sammy. The time to worry is
when a normally playful kitty suddenly starts to sleep all the time.
This is what happened with my Sammy a while back. All of a sudden all
she wanted to do is sleep - if it had been LB I wouldn't have thought
anything was different. when I took Sam to TED turned out she had
fluid in her chest and a heart murmur.

If this is her normal behavior, and has been going on for a good long
time, I wouldn't worry about it. Some cats are just more sedentary than
others.

I agree
Imp sleeps a LOT. There are times when he gets in a frisky mood and
starts chasing Mischief in hopes of starting a wrestling match, but
most of the time Mischief doesn't want to play so they just play tag.
But he definitely is more sedentary. Right now he's taking his
afternoon nap, which followed his noon nap. Later he'll take his late
afternoon nap and possibly an evening nap unless he decides to venture
out into the living room to his cube and nap there. :)
