This morning Dennis got up before me. This is an *extremely* rare
occurrence! Vino went out in the living room with him for a few
minutes, but then wanted back in the bedroom to keep an eye on me. It's
me he gets food from, not Dennis, and he knows this fact well!
Anyway, he came walking up to me on the bed and put an icy paw on my arm
that was sticking out from under the covers. He made a weird little
mrrrp and settled down with his 2 cold front paws pressed against my
arm. Seconds later, he wiggled his back end around so that all 4 of his
icy paws were pressed against my arm. He began purring contentedly.
When his paws were all toasty warm, he told me it was time to get up and
serve breakfast. Naturally I obeyed :-)

Well, I've used Stinky to warm my toes, so I wouldn't begrudge him the
chance to warm his tootsies on me. Eeeeeeeeeeek! ;)

Same here. I used to use Rusty as a foot warmer when I came in from the
cold.
He didn't like my icy feet and so of course I stopped doing it.

Poor little Vino is used to Thai heat, not Australian spring! What a good
servant you are :)

Spring? You've got the wrong hemisphere for that. It's late Autumn/early
Winter here, and Vino has quite a while to wait before things warm up.

Yup. Here's a question. Why are they saying on the local news that the
first day of winter is June 1? Wouldn't it be June 21? In Canada that
would be the first day of summer so I figured it would be the opposite
here. I mean the solstice isn't going to change depending on which
hemisphere you're in. I'm getting quite confused...

The convention is that Winter is June-August. They seem to prefer
sticking to calendar months for this sort of thing, and late August can
certainly be cold enough to merit the label. On the other hand, May can
be pretty chilly itself, so it's unclear to me exactly why this set of
months was chosen. If you said June 21 was the start, then you'd either
have to call Winter less than 1/4 of the year long, or call most of
September Winter, and that's just not going to fly. September is
normally too warm here for that.

I was in Victoria in August, and it was what I would call early
spring. People's gardens were starting to sprout.

It never made sense to me that winter didn't start till solstice.
Everywhere I've lived that had winter, November sure seemed to qualify.
And Spring and Fall never feel like they are as long as summer and winter.

They've started calling May 24th th start of summer here now, although it
was a cool and wet 15° last weekend. But almost 34° this past week.

I realized that as soon as I hit "send" :) Ooops! Well, it's still Spring
here!

Poor Vino won't know what hit him. This side of the globe is going
into winter, not summer! The weather downunder is going to be getting
colder for a few months before it warms up again.

LOL! I got the nicest wake-up in a long time today. Caliban used to come
and snuggle with me in the morning when he was a kitten, cuddling up
against my face and treading me and purring. Well, he gave me one of
these kitten wake-ups today. Just lovely. Much better than him
scratching at the door to the enclosure.

It's been unseasonably cold here these last few days, so Soncek went
back to sleeping at my feet at night which he only does in winter.
Best wishes,
Polonca and Soncek
