Every season there's a dropoff on Old Mine Rd;  last summer brought a
pretty black male who the Humane Society relocated.  That's one of the
good stories and today is another, altho actually this cat was in town
and not technically a dropoff.

First noticed him being fed by the villa's handyman;  I asked him about
the cat but he answered unintelligably so I let it go - didn't want to
stop good works after all but I did start biking that way out to Old
Mine and I did see this black cat occasionally.  One day I had a tin
with me and invited him to eat.  Next time he even approached after I
called.  After that he came when I called and accepted scritches and
even belly rubs (tho he plays a mean game of tag).  But the next two
times I put food out he didn't touch it.  And the last couple times he
disdained coming even for scritches.

Today I saw the handyman feeding him and this time he was more
talkative.  Turns out a guest there had left the cat and he's been
feeding him twice a day ever since.  He has 3 at home, one an adopted
feral, and can't take another on but for four years he's been taking
care, bringing him in when it gets too cold etc.  Cat trotted away from
scritches today so I guess I'm only useful as a reserve food supplier :-)
