Haircut Day For Bikkie

Biskit got groomed today. Certainly not for appearances' sake. She
hates to be brushed, her hair is angora-fine, and oily. It's too long
for her groom herself and she was a mess. And she had to be
uncomfortably hot.

She got a lion cut. She looks pretty funny, but very clean and smooth
and soft and that's nice. I didn't realize how tiny she really is till
now.

The problem is, they sedated her and I'm a little worried about her.
She still is very wobbly and acts afraid of me. It's been so long since
I had Cherokee, I can't really remember how long it took for the
sedative to completely wear off, but Cherokee never acted afraid after
I got him home.

I put her off in the bedroom by herself for the evening. Hope she will
sleep it off and be herself again tomorrow.

She'll like her haircut tomorrow, I think. The A/C repairman came
today, and the unit is toast. The compressor went out, and that's a
thousand dollars to repair. So we have to start getting estimates for a
new unit. Don't know how long it's going to take to get one installed.

Poor little girl!  I was actually thinking about her when I was
bathing Betty.  I thought well, cat bathing might not be the most
pleasant thing, but at least her fur isn't as thick and long as
Biskit's!  I would have had to both shave and wash her.

Let us know how she turns out.  Hopefully she'll have forgotten about
the experience tomorrow.

Yup. RIP heat pump. RIP lawn tractor. RIP Dodge Ram. RIP refrigerator.
RIP blow dryer.

RIP savings account.

Last night, I think it was Miami CSI: they showed law enforcement stop
a runaway criminal by aiming a laser-type beam at his car, causing
mechanical failure, and stops the car. I think one of these laser-beams
has inadvertently been aimed at my whole house.

Hang it Sherry!!!  We have just enough to cover repairs to Emily, once
we get her to the repair shop.  Please tell your appliances to stop
spreading their break down thing around.  Mine always seem to get it
from you.  Our Lawn mower is acting up now, and we don't know if we can
fix it.

How is Bikkie doing? And where are those piccies??

> How is Bikkie doing? And where are those piccies??

Oh, she is fine now. She acts so much happier! I think she's not only
cooler, but she thinks she is very pretty. You can say "Bikkie's
c-u-u-u-u-u-u-te" and she rolls and rolls. She also walks with her tail
high in the air. I don't think she did that before.
She did look kind of like a chihuahua that got too close to a nuclear
reactor or something at first. But I got used to looking at her, and
now she looks real cute to me.

Oh my.  Shades of our poodle groomer in Alaska, whose Persian cat insisted
on being kept in a show poodle cut.

My aunt takes hers in to get their bellies shaved every few months.  I have
no idea how she gets Blue to the groomer, but she does.  Since he won't
allow brushing, it keeps him presentable.  Sunshine loves getting groomed,
and brushed, and darn near everything else.  I think maybe he figures he has
to compensate for Blue's hostile nature.

Biskit doesn't allow brushing either. She's very polite about it; she
just tries to get away, but all the same, she was a matted mess. She
had somehow gotten matts on her "underarms: that were impossible to get
out. I hope now that we got the old hair off, it will grow back in
better condition.

Nermal's always came back in sooooo soft. Some years she didn't matt so
bad and we could keep up (she hated being brushed too, except for her
back. That was OK. But that wasn't enough). It sure is easier for quite
a while though while it is growing back. It's just a necessary
sometimes with these long haired cats. We also made over Nermal and she
thought she was gorgeous, but she looked rather like the Luck Dragon.

Great cut! They feel sooooooooo much better to get all that off and
when it is 90 this weekend she will really love it. It grows back
quick. Nermal actually became a different cat when we first did it. SHe
had always been shy and vague, but her matts were just too bad and we
got the lion cut. Well, she came out of her shell, joined the family
and became alert. It makes a huge difference when they really need it.
She is such a pretty cat, hair cut or no.

fur.  Her poses would merit a belly nibble. :)

I'm quasi thinking about getting QC a trim because she also has a heat
problem and mats up to an extent.  How much does something like this
cost?  I should call my vet's office and see what they charge.

Pam S. interested in making the Cooch comfortable.

It was expensive ($85) because I didn't actually take her to a groomer.
It was done in the vet's office, under sedation administered by the
vet, by the vet's technician.  But I *wanted* her sedated, in a
veterinary-controlled environment. Remember when I first got her, how
awful matted she was? The vet's assistant (not the main
technician)...tried to shave the worst of the matts off Biskit
un-sedated. She apparently fought and was uncooperative, and ended up
with three stitches in her side because the girl nicked her. Cats skin
is like paper-thin.
It's really moot anyway, since we don't have a "cat groomer" here at
all. But this one technician is better than the rest of them; even
though normall what she does is just hygenic shaves and stuff. I think
she did a great job. Bikkie does, too.
QC would really be cooler. I've been watching Bikkie about laying on
the west windowsill. I'm thinking she might sunburn if I don't watch
her, till it grows back a bit.

I think you did the right thing. I would also rather Rusty be shaved, if
need be,
at the vet's office. If something happens, the vet is there or the vet tech
would know
what to do. Rusty was bathed at the vet clinic twice before. He was boarded
there
when I was out of town. The people in the vet clinic all know Rusty who has
been
a patient (client?) there for the last 11 years, and they know his health
history.
I trust them more than any groomer or pet boarding place.

My next door neighbor has a small dog who needs to be shaved.  The
groomer they were using managed to slice Podo twice, the second time a
cut that needed to be stitched.  After that, they're obviously not
returning.  The crazy part?  The groomer never even fessed up, didn't
say a peep when they picked Podo up!  Can you imagine?

She looks comfy. I bet her skin has patches too!  Hard to tell with
the shaven fur still showing. Shadow, a mostly all-black cat had a
black and gray stomach when it was shaved.  Shamrock's tummy is
also a muddled gray and white.

Oh, thank you. She is sooo cute. It has grown out a bit already. I
really wish you all could see her. She prances around like she's a
little princess. I say, "Bikke's cuuuute..." and she rolls and rolls.
She is perkier and more playful.
The bad limp she had turned out to be an abscess. As soon as it
drained, I guess the pain disappeared and she's good as new now.
I'm going to get her a haircut every spring now.

The way you have the two images positioned, it looks like the black

LOL! Thanks, Tak. And thanks for creating her new song, "Too sexy for
her fur."
Yoda already had a song, the "Lola" parody ... "Yooooda....Yo Yo Yo Yo
Yoooda." Boots is an original tune, "Tooter Booter." Bosley's is like a
name-game song, "Bozzy Ozzy Wuz A Wozzy."  They hate it when I sing.

Pearl just HATES music, but especially singing. I was listening to something
on the computer the other day and she about took my head off. I can't figure
out how I got stuck with such a music hating cat. It really cuts down on an

How *weird*! What does she do when you play guitar? Mine don't seem to
mind anybody's singing except mine. (hmmm. There's a message there).
Biskit loves TV. She loves nothing better than for somebody to lay with
her on the couch and watch TV. She is a real couch potato cat.

listening to music without headphones. (Unless she is really asleep). It's
very sad.

That's terrible! Pearl, please calm down and let your Meowmie enjoy her
music now and then, OK?

It really upsets her. I don't know why, but she means business. I think it
is half annoyance and half concern. Not sure though. So little bothers her.
Why music????

QC used to bite the phone cord of our old phone through at least once a
week.  She also did in the speakers of my old computer.  There was
something in the overtones of each item that just drove her nuts.  She
hasn't bothered any of our computers or speakers, since we got them over
a year ago, and the phone died an unnatural death (death by drowning, if
I recall correctly) and the new phone's ring bothers everyone but QC.

All of the Fayetteville mafia love music, even when it's me singing.  PC
gets the "too sexy for his fur" song sung at him, and Tanada gets her
version of Jingle bells.  I make up a lot of songs, but they also like
it when I sing along with the cd player.  Very strange since my singing
voice isn't at all good.  I believe they think I'm caterwauling for them.

It's spreading to Tennessee, too.  My computer died yesterday.  I was
not a happy camper when I had to make a trip to Staples to replace it.

Well, my car battery died and my vacuum belt broke. It's catching.

I had a scary moment when my car was running kinda rough so he spent
yesterday at the garage - but it only ended up costing me $35.

WHEW!!!   I'd cover his ears, but where exactly are the ears on a car?

Or maybe he's being nice because last time I took him in, it cost $900.

Washing machines only go out with a full load.
Refrigerators go out in the summer
Furnaces go out on coldest night.
Water gets turned off when you are washing your hair.
Power goes out when cooking dinner.
What else???

The car is fixed, more or less, the lawn mower has hope, and my bread
maker won't work.  The curse is still on.

Oh, noooooo. So weird.
We finally bought a new refrigerator. After the A/C quit, it gets as
hot as 90 in the house in the afternoon. I think that's what pushed the
old girl over the edge.
No A/C yet, and no immediate plans to get one. We still have haven't
gotten the estimate from the 2nd company, and  with the holiday coming
up I bet we can't get anything done til next week. The first estimate
was $5800, gaaaahhhh I know I looked like I was in shock.

Depending on how old the old unit was, a new one can save you quite a bit on
electric.  Still, even if it saved $100 a month it would take five years to
pay for itself.

Good lord, $5800 to 'fix' an A/C? They're ripping you off. Last summer our
A/C died and we had to buy a new one. We have a 4 bedroom colonial, over
4,000 square feet in the house with central cooling & heating. The new A/C
installed cost us under $3500. You're better off just buying a new unit.
Good luck!

Oh, sorry; I wasn't clear on that. The estimate is for a whole new heat
pump unit. Our old one is too "broke" to fix, and it doesn't make sense
to replace just the A/C-part, because the heat part is on its last leg
too.
But your house is much bigger than ours. Maybe this first estimate was
way on the high end. It was from a Trane dealer.  A Carrier/Rheem
dealer is coming tomorrow.

Biskit is so much like Betty, too. They have the same personality. You
can imagine how bad I hated to take her in and how bad I hate that she
acts afraid of me. I also hope she forgets by tomorrow.

The vet suggested Rusty get a shave to rid of the ringworm. I was worried
about the sedation as Rusty is a senior. He is going to be 12 in 2 weeks.
But if on the next recheck he still hasn't completely got rid of the
ringworm,
I will go for the shave. The weather should be warmer then as I don't want
him
to catch a cold. I wonder how long for the fur to grow back. Rusty will look
very skinny without his fur.

I got my AC maintainance serviced a few weeks ago. But the weather turned
cold and
I had to turn the heat back on. Last year I couldn't get anyone to come to
do maintenance
work on my AC in June or July as so many need repair work on their AC.
So this year I made sure I got it done early.
Good luck and hope you get a new AC installed soon.

I'm surprised they sedated her - most groomers can manage without doing
that.

Purrs for her to sleep it off and feel better in the morning.

I think they don't sedate when brushing or bathing.
The vet told me his clinic will sedate Rusty for shaving.
I suppose cats will fight to save their fur. I know Rusty will.
He fought when they drew blood for tests.  The first time the vet
gave up, saying he couldn't be sick when he could fight like that.
Three of us tried to hold him down with little success.
Since then, they managed to draw blood a few times. It could be
Rusty is getting mellower as he gets older.
Rusty is a quiet cat, not aggresive at all. The only times I heard
him hissed were at the vet's.

I saw the vet's own cat without his fur. He is a Persian look alike.

OUCH!  Sherry, many financial purrs headed your way.  Sounds like you
