Kitty pranks

Betty has problems with her jaw, making her drool and bleed on
herself, and unable to clean properly, so I've been wiping her down
when necessary, and keeping her clean the best I can.  Last week, I
had to give Betty a bath for the first time.

Actually, it was more of a shower.  I had just gotten back from taking
a walk in sweltering 75 degree weather, so I figured that we could
bathe together.

Of course, Betty didn't like this at all.  She'd looked in on me in
the shower occasionally before, always seeming very worried, but this
time, she was on the *inside*, and getting *wet*!  She cried at the
sight of the running water.  I held her against my shoulder like a
baby being burped, and let the water run over her.  I looked at her
and she looked so funny, with a droopy face and eyes like big googly
marbles perched on top of her head!  I giggled.

Betty didn't seem to hold a grudge - I dried her with two bath towels,
and did the finer finishing grooming work on my lap with a brush and
paper towels.

But later, as we were in bed together, Betty in my right arm, Betty
licked her paw, then stuck it in my ear!  Ewww, was this some
elementary schoo prank?  She was teaching me that a wet sensation can
be an unpleasant one.  She curled up, and we both fell asleep,
dreaming kitty dreams.

You clearly didn't wash your ears well enough.

I second this theory. She thought that if she had to get a bath, you
could get one as well - cat-style ;-))

This is the first time I've experienced it first hand!  Before, I had
only seen it on The Simpsons.  I just hope this term doesn't have a
British etymology.

Doesn't it involve a fish and some baby oil and an electric razor

More likely she thinks you have forgotten how cleaning is
*supposed* to be done.

Poor sweet Betty!  You got a "wet willie"!  She is still full of
spirit, isn't she?

75F degrees is sweltering?  It's almost 90 degrees here and we don't call
that sweltering :)

Of course not!  Cats bathe themselves, silly!

Awww... Betty is a sweet cat.  I still haven't figured out why Persia
started tapping me on the nose but that's her way now of telling me it's
time to feed her.

This temperature feels hot in the spring, when you're still used to
cool days and frigid nights.  90 degrees right now would be
unthinkable.

I remember last summer, I was having this conversation with someone:

Me: "It's so hot - I can't stand it anymore."

Him: "It's 80 degrees out."

Me: "Please kill me..."

>Awww... Betty is a sweet cat.  I still haven't figured out why Persia

Yup, the nose is a favorite cat toy. :)

You are in our thoughts often, Betty and Tak! Thank you for a beautiful
story!
Lots and lots of purrs and best wishes,
