As you all know, I've had this problem of a gif file being attached to my
posts since I installed a free spamblocker.
Anyone who reads posts via NIN will not have seen mine recently as it blocks
any attachments, they are not allowed.
I thought I would get in touch with them and explain the difficulty it was
causing on the newsgroup and whether they had considered that some
newsreaders don't allow attachments.
I had this reply:

Dear  Madam,

Thank you for your interest in our product.

Adding a promotional signature to the bottom of an email is standard
practice among free email based services.

SpamBlockerUtility is offered initially as a free service and adds a
promotional signature to your email. The promotional signature aims to
inform recipients of our special email services and how they too can take
advantage of our value added service.

If you wish to subscribe to the paid service, which is a version without the
promotional signature, please click on the following link-

If you have additional questions do not hesitate to contact us again.
Have a nice day.

(When replying, please do not change the subject , as it contains your
support call ID and do not remove the message contents)

They just *did* not see the irony of being a spamblocker service and forcing
me to sent out spam!!!
The program was surprisingly difficult to uninstall.  I uninstalled it, was
told the uninstall was successful but the next day, bless your life, it was
still there.
So then I had no desktop icon to get it back..but its evil toolbar was still
there and had replaced my normal one :-(
I had to ponder about how to do this, but I eventually sussed it.  It took
two more uninstalls to get rid of it.
It's a pity.  It's a very effective spam control program, although I only
had it a few days it removed spam and never made a mistake in removing
family/friends.
Maybe they have to tune it up a bit.  First thing: stop attaching gif
files..!

Have you considered Thunderbird for mail and/or usenet?  It's free,
open source, backed by the Mozilla group, and has a built-in junk
filter ... and *no* appended anything you don't tell it to append - it
does what you tell it to and not much else: there are no major
surprises.
