I've noticed that my big orange fuzzbuddy "RJ":
http://www.waas.us/images/cats/rj-o4.jpg
has different places to sleep, and that there is one per each sleeping
purpose. I also need to tell you that I have fixed up a nice "hiding
place" for RJ. I simply took a big cardboard box and laid it on its
side. He goes in there and sleeps and really likes it. on the top of
the box I added, using a big marker pen "Klubhouse -- No Gurlz Alowed"
1- After meals: Tabletop in living room.
2- When I'm working computer: Chair next to where I sit.
3- When I'm sitting watching TV or listening to music: Tabletop next
to me.
4- For watching out the window: 2nd shelf of table next to window.
5- For deep contemplation: The Klubhouse, or spare sofa in my bedroom.
6- When he's angry with me (because I won't let him out on the patio
when it's raining, or when I won't feed him a 2nd full meal: First he
bites me, then he goes to a bottom bookshelf in the corner and sulks.
I've noticed that each sleeping spot is for a specific purpose. Have
you noticed the same thing?

I have 5 kitties to watch but I'll see if I can keep tabs -- sounds like RJ
is a collector of catnap cubbies!

Ours all have their own sleeping spots too.
Nocturne:
Spends the days enthroned upon a pillow on the bed, holding court
Spends the evenings on the top of the rocking chair, supervising
humans
Spends the nights asleep at the foot of the bed, guarding humans.
Smokey:
Pokes on the couch. Period.
Kumani:
Naps on the bed with her sister in the day
Sleeps on the cat furniture at night
Sleeps on the brown chair with her sister at night
Tyche:
Sleeps on the bed with Kumani in the day
Sleeps with her head under the rocking chair in the
afternoons--looking like a headless cat.

Aren't you afraid someone will "rock" right over her neck? One of
my big fears about rocking chairs and recliners is the possibility
of a cat getting underneath moving parts and being squished. Some
cats seem to enjoy putting themselves in the most precarious situations!

The rocking chair rocks on a central spring attached to the base,
rather than on a pair of runners. Therefore, it is impossible to rock
right over her neck. She might get crunched a bit were someone to sit
down in the chair, but both of us know to look for legs, tails, etc
hanging out from underneath--besides, whoever sits in that chair gets
a brand new black coat like Nox--and From Nox. That's HER chair to
shed in.

Bandit - on my pillow
Demi - on the chair under the table
Jessie - on the big, overstuffed chair in the great room
Sammy - on the chair in my bedroom that's draped with a velour throw,
snuggled up to my blue cotton kitty
They all except Bandit rotate during the day all the choice, sunny window
sills - Bandit never leaves my pillow.
Hugs,

Omar tends to find sleeping spots in the kitchen, which seems to be his
domain. Right now, he's sleeping on the countertop on a towel; he's not
been feeling too good the past few days. When Tucker gets put up around 9
pm to sleep in Celeste's room, Omar will come out of the kitchen and
sometimes claim lap rights. He also lives for keeping me company in the
bath and will curl up in the warm tub for a wash and nap once my bathwater
has run out.
We have one preferred cat tree that Oreo, Tucker and Midnight all like
equally so sometimes there are spats about who gets to sleep there.
Otherwise, Oreo will sleep on the sofa in the den -- she also has turned
into a sweet little lap kittygirl and keeps my lap warm at the computer.
Midnight likes to sleep on the kitchen chairs (the ones that still have
cushions) and in the "preferred" cat tree and 2 other cat trees in the
house. She definitely likes to claim lap rights on DH's chest when he's in
his recliner! Midnight is just about the only kitty who sleeps in bed with
me at night. Middie will sleep in the laundry basket, too.
Robin's favorite sleeping spot is on the brown armchair that has long been a
cat nap place for various kitties that I've owned. He has really come
around, though, and will now dare to sleep in my lap while I'm watching tv.
He has even napped with me in bed!
Tucker's in nirvana when he gets to sleep in Celeste's room at night; he
goes through a whole ritual of headbutting, nursing on C's blanket, climbing
on C's chest and nudging her chin, and then curling up for the night; it's
really sweet to watch. During the day, he, too, likes the "preferred" cat
tree.

Frank sleeps on his bed all day and all night. I call it his bed because
he certainly spends more time there than I do. He usually sleeps on the
pillow. Lately he has taken to napping in the shower cubicle. When he
really wants to be left in peace, he goes on top of the bookcase, and
when he really *really* wants to be left in peace, he sleeps behind the
books in the bookcase. But mostly he is on the bed. The exception is if
it's a warm and sunny day; then he will sleep on his chair on the
balcony, as long as the sun shines in on it.
Nikki is more varied in her napping, but I can't say that any places
have special purposes. She sleeps on one of the levels of the cat tree,
in my easy chair, on the ottoman, on top of a paper bag lying on the
floor, inside another paper bag lying on the floor, inside one of the
cardboard boxes littering the floor, sometimes rarely on top of the
bookcase, and if Frank will let her, on the bed. She also has a black
hole where she disappears sometimes and then materializes, blinking her
eyes and looking very sleepy.

Well, with a tribe of 7 we have had to provide plenty of napping spots.
Xoxo tends to sleep mostly on his new puffy bed, but at night he joins
us in bed. Basho and Issa like sleeping together in one of the cat beds
in the studio, probably because it gets a lot of sun. Luna likes mostly
human furniture. Maya naps everywhere and so do the boys.
A favorite spot is the top of the fish tank, where it's warm because of
the lights. Come winter, they will all sleep in bed with us at night.
The electric blanket helps... :)

Even though I think they prefer people-furniture, Thomas and Chesha
have at least one or two cat beads in every room. I'm not sure why I
keep buying them. I think maybe it's an obsession. But they're just so
cute. I do notice that my munchkins have a specific routine with their
sleeping patterns. I'm not sure if the sleeping spots serve a specific
purpose or if they just continue going there out of habit. Their
routines do gradually change just like ours do. Here's what I have
observed lately.
Afternoon/Early evening:
Chesha usually likes draping herself over the back of my oversized
desk chair when I'm on the computer. She likes draping herself across
the back of the futon if I'm watching T.V. Thomas likes to either
sleep on my boyfriend's desk or in the chair in front of his drum set.
(Obviously, Thomas only likes the drums when they are not being
played.)
Bedtime:
Chesha waits for us in her hammock bed while Thomas is usually already
in the big bed. Once we get in bed, Chesha crawls in next to me and
Thomas goes to the foot of the bed to guard everyone.
Morning:
By the time the sun comes up, Chesha has moved to the window sill.
Thomas is usually snuggling next to my boyfriend. If he's not feeling
well or is being pouty, he'll sleep on the futon by himself. Once he
sees me get up, he moves to my pillow and goes back to sleep. Chesha
will follow me to the bathroom and sleep in the sink until I'm out of
the shower.
I'm not quite sure where they sleep when we are at work. We would like
to set up a web cam so we can see how they behave and interact when we
are not around.
