My brother is currently serving in Afghanistan. As it's his birthday in
a couple of weeks, I've been putting a package together for him of
various things like Chocolate Horlicks, which he loves, *Proper*
cadburys chocolate with honeycomb and almond, stuff like that.
Lily was watching me pack the box that I was going to mail it all in.
This is *after* all the cats had sat in the box to test its strength of
course. ;o)
Then I saw Lily drop her favourite yellow fur mouse in the box. The
yellow fur mouse is a present that my brother bought for Lily when he
was home, and he and she spent the whole weekend playing *fetch* with. I
took it out of the box. She dropped it back in. I took it out, she
dropped it back in. Eventually, after the 8th or 9th time of it being
dropped in the box, I took it out and put it on the bookcase out of her
reach, and went and made a cup of tea. When I came back, the yellow fur
mouse was back in the box.
The yellow fur mouse has gone to Afghanistan with a note saying "love
Lily". Eventually even I take a hint. ;o)

I'm sure Lily's saying she expects your brother to bring the mousie back to
her, I sincerely hope he does ASAP.

That is so sweet!
I don't know if I've ever shared this or not. Back in 2001 I was getting
ready to go out on the road for my first time ever. I was going to be away
from home for two months, living in a truck with my trainer. I was not at
all thrilled at the prospect of being away from home for that long, but
that was the only way I could complete my training and get my commercial
driver's license.
Nancy and I had adopted Amelia just a few months before, and she was still
a little kitten. She watched Nancy and me getting my bag packed and making
sure I had everything I would need. We were a bit rushed, so didn't pay a
lot of attention to what all was in my bag.
My first night on the road I was going through my bag getting ready to
sack out for the night when I found one of Amelia's favorite fluffy
mice. She had seen me getting ready to go and had added her own good-luck
piece for me. As soon as I saw that I realized it was a gift from Amelia,
so I put it in a plastic bag and kept it in my pocket for the entire time
I was in the truck - even after I completed training.

That is true love -- giving up your favorite toy to make someone else
happy. Purrs for the blessed kitties and all the soldiers. MLB

Amelia knew you would miss her and she gave you something to make her
absence more bearable! Thank you for the story, Dan.
Best wishes,

damn, that brought a tear to my eye and a catch in my throat. God bless your
brother and his companions in Afghanistan. Give Lily extra skritches for
being so loving.

I am so proud of my wink wink Miss Lily Whiskers. Our hoomins need all
the love we can send them, and toys to keep them happy. I hope get gets
lots of mouse batting time where he is and can get plenty of practice so
that he can come close to cat standards when he comes back.

Please give your brother our love and appreciation for protecting those
who depend on the troops for our safety. Ah well, you know what I mean.

She is just trying to continue the game. Now if he will just do it properly
and return it in person as soon as possible.
