I got the cats a new luxury cat tree. It consists of two poles with a
'loft' between, and I added a nest to the right-hand pole. Pictures of
the creation, and Miranda enjoying it, starting here (7 pics):

The things you do for your cats!  Miranda is so funny!  I hope that
Caliban is enjoying it too.  But now you'll never be able to catch
either of them if you need to take them to TED. :)

Take another look! I just added some pis of Caliban on the tree. I told
my Mum, who helped me assemble the tree, that I will probably never see
Miranda again, because she loves being high up so much. She does enjoy
the tree, but she still comes and curls up with me at night. Caliban
enjoys the tree, too, after he figured out how to drag his big belly all
the way up. ;o) The loft is nice and broad, so they can snooze or
wrestle or just lounge in comfort there.

Yes, the things I do for them! <groping around in purse for money to
feed self remainder of month> I am grateful to a certain very, very
generous lurker. This is the Xmas present for the kitties. The delivery
time was very long, and then the parts sat around while I mustered
enough energy to assemble them.

It's a Finnish company, but they do have a site in English as well.
Here's the page with different assemblies of their products. They are
mix-and-match, so you can create the cat tree you want. There's a
version of the loft near the bottom of the page, but I don't have as
many bells and whistles, just the one nest.

I see the one you're talking about cost 610 euros, the one you have can't
have cost a lot less. What a good slave you are.

Oh, my goodness! That's enormous!! How long did it take you to set that
up??

Mir certainly has claimed her space on it, hasn't she? I was starting
to wonder if Caliban was going to be allowed on it, until I got almost
to the end. I like how she seems to be carefully picking her way onto
the different surfaces and sniffing everything to check it out, whereas
he just plunks himself down and sprawls out to commence a good wash. :)

It took me a couple of weeks mustering up the courage to tackle the
thing, but when I finally did, it only took a couple of hours (with the
help of my mum).

Mir was the first on the tree, obviously. It took a little longer for
Caliban to figure out how he should get here with his big tummy. I
lifted him the first few times, but now he scales the poles like he'd
been doing it all his life. Besides scaling the pole, Miranda jumps from
the top of the other cat tree (a couple of metres - about six feet)
quite effortlessly. Hehe, I don't think Caliban will ever manage that.

Miranda's so elegant and athletic, but I especially like picture 70
(palace10). That's a contented cat! Isn't it funny how comfortable they
appear with bits hanging off whatever they're lying on? I noticed it again
with my own and the windowsill yesterday.

That's quite a complex tree. It must have been difficult to install.

Hehehe, I caught Caliban with his tongue out. He's such a ham, when he
sees me coming with the camera he starts rolling around and making faces.

> That's quite a complex tree. It must have been difficult to install.

It was easier than I expected, though it did take a couple of hours.

Watching them enjoy it has more than repaid me. :o) I'm not quite sure,
though, hat it's such a good idea to let Caliban practise his climbing
skills before we set off for the island...

I, I mean the cats want one.  It doesn't matter that we have no place to
put it, that the cost of the shipping and handling would exceed the cost
of the Palace, or that the budget won't stretch that far.  The cats (and
I) want one.  Miranda and Caliban are onto a good thing.

As others have said, that is one heck of a cat tree!  And no, they aren't
spoiled.  When are you going to install some feeding stations so they don't
ever have to come down? ;)

I'd love to have something like that for the cats, but the Palace will
have to do for them until I win the lottery and can buy a big house and
have builders make them the elevated cat-run. ;o)

You do realise, to win the lottery you have to buy a ticket? Apparently I've
been doing wrong for years, I never buy a ticket. ;-)

Actually no.  We once found a ticket in the bottom of a grocery bag we
brought home.  A very lucky ticket.  A scratch off.  It won around $20.
Figured it wasn't out money and bought more.  Third batch included a drawing
for a trip to the "wheel of fortune" type round.  Didn't make it past the
drawing.  But it was getting very interesting there for a while.

More interesting that any we've ever bought.
