Has anyone else heard of this? They're offering it through my job,
for about $6.50 a month. On the one hand, it looks marvelous, but
I'd have to change vets (my current vet doesn't take the plan).
On the other hand, I've never had a pet who required extensive
medical work. Well, I've only had 3 cats over my adult life, so far,
so I could just be spoiled. Basically, I bring them home, get their
first shots, then feed and water and love them until they die.
Never needed anything else.
It's like any insurance coverage - a gamble that you won't need it.
Decisions, decisions....

$6.50 sounds like such a reasonable price, but consider: that's $78 a
year, and if the cat lives ten years (and of course it will) that's $780.
Sure some vet bills are higher than that, but does it sound like as good
a deal now?
For me, it's like that LineBacker service the phone company offers. Just
$5 a month and you can avoid a bill that could go as high as a couple of
hundred dollars. Of course, that's $60 a year, for the 40 or so years
that we're phone company customers.

Actually, I think it does. I could see spending that much over 10 years.
You wouldn't even have to have a catastrophy for vet visits to accumulate
over the years.
Of course, I guess it depends on what's covered. If it's only for a major
illness or injury (ie, not for preventive care), then I guess it's possible
you wouldn't spend that much. But I sure wish I'd had it when Smudge was
attacked. That bill came to $900 US! If you folks hadn't been there for
me, I'd be sunk.
Actually, I'm quite amazed that Jane's company provides pet insurance.
Don't think I've ever heard of that before! Must be a nice place to work.

Yeah, it amazed me too. They also provide legal services (like the pre-paid
legal services out there), and elder care 'insurance', which will help
anyone who is taking care of an aging parent.
As for the nice place? Well, we'll see. I'm very impressed with everything
I've seen so far, but I'm a contractor and I'm tired of feeling shuffled
from company to company.
Last job: 4 years in the same job for 3 different companies and 4 different
insurance coverage plans. The last company just threw us away when they
lost the contract. No assistance whatsoever.
This job: Less than 2 years at the job and I'm already on my 3rd company.
It makes me nervous.

You get benefits even as a contractor? That's pretty decent!

LOL, I've been there. I remember a joke that went, "You know it's the
90s when you've sat at the same desk for 4 years and worked for 3 different
companies." That was literally true for me, too! I even had the same
manager and did the same work for that whole time, while working for
a new company every few years.
Guess merger mania is still going strong even though the 90s are well
over.

I imagine so! Hope it works out and you get some job security!

I don't know. You have to figure that any insurance plan will be
structured so that overall, the insurance company makes money (income
of clients vs. outgo of clients' coverage).
If the $6.50 is because your company is subsidizing it, it might be
worth it (although what happens when you leave the company?). If your
company isn't subsidizing it -- what can their coverage be like if
they're profitable at $6.50 a month per pet?

Apparently the company is subsidizing a bit - according to their website,
it's $99 a year normally.
That's a whopping $21 difference without the company. lol

It depends of course on what is covered and how limited your choice of vets
is. Do they have a web site you can check?
I know I've spent a fortune on vet bills over the last 40 years. (Worth
every penny).
