badwilson - 10 May 2006 10:13 GMT Long day today, I got up at 6 but didn't get out of the house till 6:45 this morning. Got stuck for 1/2 hour in Mandurah due to paving and another 1/2 hour just south of Perth due to other construction. Arrived at our friend Peter's at 10:45 and quickly handed him his stuff that he shipped over with ours, and took off to get Vino. I had to be there before noon, otherwise I would have had to wait till 1:30 to get him. I got there with 10 min to spare! We had a nice ride home, I strapped Vino's carrier into the passenger seat facing me. He meowed for the first 10 min but soon settled down. We split some McDonald's fries (well, he had 3 fries and I had the rest!). Funnily, he turned up his nose at a piece of meat from my Quarter Pounder. What's that saying about McD's meat, I wonder?!?! He's been off exploring the house as soon as I opened his carrier. He needs to stay within sight of me though. He kind of follows me around from a distance, it's so cute! I fed him some of that raw cat meat they sell in the supermarket and he gobbled it up. He was a bit nervous though and kept standing up to look around. I crouched next to him and reassured him that nobody was going to attack him or take his food away. He also had some Iams kibble. I showed him his litterbox and he layed down in it and did upside downy head while purring his fool head off. I said, "what are you doing, Vino? That's your toilet!" and he stood up and had a nice long pee, still purring the whole time. Now he's a bit tired from all the excitement and is lying in the middle of the floor, facing me. I don't think it's going to take him long to settle in :-)

I'm so glad his orange lordship is home. Has he tried scratching the big roof pole yet?

No, I doubt that he will because he doesn't scratch on wood. He's a sisal man ;-) I've got this little flat scratch sisal thing that you're supposed to hang on a door knob (but Vino doesn't scratch it that way because it moves around too much). So I've screwed it onto the pole, using a crack in the pole to put the screws into, so as not to ruin the look of the pole. I showed it to him but he didn't scratch it either. We'll have to see what happens. He might just be too excited still to really get into a good scratch. He tried to jump from the dining room table to the kitchen counter, but slipped on the table runner and fell down. Poor boy :-( He didn't seem fazed though. So far he seems to like perching on the back of the couch from where he can survey the whole big living area. We had a little cuddle on the couch earlier and watched Deal or No Deal together :-)

The kids loved him when he was doing "Bobby's World." Mike used to be able to imitate Howie's voice for Bobby. Mandel used to have an afro, now he's bald., a big change for me. He still has that whacked out sense of humor, though.
Pam S. would love to see DOND in various parts of the world.

Even though I believe it is the most absurd concept for an hour long show to come along in a great while.
But I have to give it Mandel. He makes the show. Night after night and for an hour at a time. I think its just amazing.

I watched that show religiously in the 80s. He played an ER doc, if I remember correctly. That was the first I'd ever heard of him.

One of my favorite actors, William Daniels, played one of the surgeons on it. Funny enough, the Weird Al video "Like a Surgeon" was filmed using the cast of St. Elsewhere. I think it was one od Weird Al's better videos.

Oh wow - one of my friends has a DVD of Weird Al videos, and I'm pretty sure that one is on it. But I guess we didn't watch it, because I definitely would have recognized them, and I would remember having seen it! Oooooo, I have to see it now.

jXwXeXrXmXoXnXt@sonic.net - 13 May 2006 00:34 GMT > One of my favorite actors, William Daniels, played one of the > surgeons on it. I was fond of Luther, one of the orderlies. That actor directed a number of the episodes, especially toward the end of the series. One of the episodes in particular sticks out in my mind, as one of the best in the series, which he directed. (I have that one on tape - I think it's time to watch it again!)
I also liked the character played by ... eek, I've completely blanked on his name. He was one of the 3 older guys who ran the hospital, the one with the deceased wife and autistic son. In real life that actor committed suicide, I think. Which doesn't surprise me that much - he wore the same grimace week after week. He was a glum actor playing a glum guy, and while I didn't think the acting itself was spectacular, I did enjoy the glum character. :)
That show had a number of goofball characters on it, though, didn't it? I mean, Ed Begley Jr, how annoying was he? And that airheaded woman who got raped and had a breakdown - I couldn't stand the way she talked. On the other hand, the show did launch a few careers - I mean, look at Denzel Washington. He's such a star that it's hard to remember that he was once on that show.

He did a lot of Eugene O'Neill on stage, which now that I think of it, isn't exactly cheerful either.

Yeah, I can picture him doing O'Neill. His character on St. E had absolutely no sense of humor - he was too busy carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. He barely even cracked a smile, except occasionally a sort of rueful smile that was more ironic than anything else.
I've never seen him in anything else, though. But I didn't mean to say he was a bad actor, I just wasn't bowled over the way I am with some other actors. But hey, it was TV. And his character was compelling, probably because of the way he played him, as much as how the char was written.

I'm sure he'll settle in nicely. At least he's with mommy now. Persia has to check everything out when I only board her for a week, and poor Vino has been stuck for much longer! Now just wait until daddy comes home! Congrats!
