Vino has always been one of those cats that tries to sneak out the front
door as anyone's coming in. Seems that his habits haven't changed in
quarantine.
The ladies who work there told me he's always squeezing out as they're
coming in with his food and stuff and he goes running off down the hall.
I met these British people there (Barry and Andrea) who had arrived a
week before me and had 2 cats in quarantine. We've been calling each
other and giving updates when we're at quarantine and the other one
isn't. We look in on each others kitties. Although their cats are
always sleeping on the top platform and refuse to come down, so my
visits don't mean much to them.
Anyway, their kitties got out of jail this past Wednesday. Barry and
Andrea were waiting for all the paperwork to be done up, so they went to
play paddy paw with Vino under his door. A quarantine lady came up and
told them how he's constantly escaping from his enclosure and just that
morning they had a whole gang in pursuit of Vino as he went galloping
down the long hallway! What a sneaky little bugger! I must say I feel
a certain amount of pride at that, at least he's getting some exercise
and a change in scenery every so often :-)
Andrea called and told me that after they got their cats home, they went
totally crazy. Zooming around, yowling in their empty house (stuff
takes a lot longer to get here from England). After 3 days at home it
had not even slowed down! They were not getting any sleep and Barry's
in construction with a new job to go to, so that has caused some
problems. Wow.
I'm really curious to see how Vino reacts, if he'll be the same way or
what. This living room here is very big with a high ceiling and even
with the furniture in it there's still a bit of an echo. I'm sure he'll
just love to hear the sound of his own meow in here!
Only 2 sleeps left, woo hoo :-)

If I were in the "Big House" for that long, I might be inclined to make
a run for it, myself! =o) Poor Vino probably can't understand why you
haven't taken him home with you, yet. I'm sure he'll be delighted once
he's out on bail.

Heh, I'm sure you're proud of Vino! Sounds great that you have met some
other people who have moved here at the same time - must be nice to have
some people who understand everything you're experiencing! Do they live
close enough for you to visit them?
Looking forward to some more Vino stories

I've got an earworm, I'm coming home I've done my time..... I think you
should tie a yellow ribbon for Vino when he gets out. <g>

Good he's keeping them on his toes. :P They'd better stay that way
until you take him home.

When HRFL Tiger was at the animal reception quarantine centre at
Heathrow, he kept sneaking out of his pen. They couldn't work out how
he managed to do it 14 times in one hour - they thought someone was
letting him out... until they looked at CCTV and saw that he was
jumping onto the shelf by the door, putting his paw through and
releasing the latch!

A similar thing happened to my mother's cat Scruffy. When he was
hospitalized at
the vet's, he escaped several times from his pen. Good thing he didn't make
it
out of the room. He was known to be an escape artist.
Rusty is good at opening doors. Once it took his cat-sitter an hour to
locate him.
He opened the door to the storage room and hid inside.
Another time I saw him opened the cabinet door under the kitchen sink. The
door swung
closed after him and he hid inside. I just hope he doesn't learn to open the
door of his
carrier while we are enroute to the vet.

About 30 years ago, my grat aunt's cat, Sammy, escaped from the vet's. My
aunt spent several hours looking for her before she went home. We went back
that evening and by some mirical I find Sammy in the woods across the road
from the vet. I can still remember the purrs when I put her in her in my
coat. I really must look for a picture of her i can put on webshots.

I bet Vino will settle down quickly in his new home. The furniture will be
familiar, and his owners will be there with him. When we moved over 18
years ago, our cats felt happy right away, most of the furniture was the
same, the house was new, and miles from where we had lived, the old house
was close to the beach in suburbia, the new one in a semirual quiet 2
hectatres. It is very quiet here, with lots of birds who sing us awake
each morning.
Just be careful about closed doors,, and all should be well.

I see it didn't take long for Vino to get the quarantine staff under his
paws. I am imagine the scene of the staff chasing Vino around. LOL.
