Around the corner from my house is a plaza where there's an organic pet
food store and gift shop. Every now and then I go in to get some special
munchies for my kids because the place carries such canned delicacies as
Thanksgiving Dinner (with the trimmings!), California Roll, and Venison
Stew. Among the exotic organic foods, gourmet treats, and adorable
gifts, there is one of the most unique and lovely cats I've ever met.

She's named, very appropriately, Rosie. Her fur is the color of pink
champagne, I kid you not! Have you ever seen a fabric which, when you
turn it this way or that under the light, might take on a different
shade or sheen? This is Rosie. She seems to have on the surface the
golden-tan color of a fine New York State sparkling wine, but there is
an undercolor of rose that shimmers as she walks and turns. It's like
the fur is tipped with the gold and rosy toward the shaft and root, and
her green eyes are almightily striking against such a background. I
swear on my mother's dentures I've never seen such a coat! She's very
happy being the shopcat, and will only sometimes give one the treat of a
greeting; but she's a camera shy girl! Maybe if I pick up some more
sushi-in-a-can she'll get more friendly...

Blessed be,
Baha

Would love to see a picture of her.  Is she a long aired cat?   MLB

Rosie is shorthaired, but the coat is very thick and plushy, and she has a very
round head. I'm working on getting her to trust the camera!

Especially if you give some to her!

I love shop cats. There are some stores I will go in just to see
the cat. :)

Our local village pet store has a lovely elderly black cat called
Millie. She bites everyone except me - I always get purrs and headrubs.
:o) But then, she knows I like her.

We have had plenty of them locally. One now-closed PetWise shop had a
lovely fellow named Buster. When the store was bought out half the town
tried to adopt him,and when the right home was found they made a huge
sign and covered the front window with it. One other famous one is
Malibu, a calico who was downtown Buffalo's collective pet and the
spokeskitty of an old-fashioned drugstore and perfume emporium. People
drove down from as far as Toronto to see her. She was immense! Sitting,
she was wider than she was tall; and elegant, always a lady. It's been
many years, nearly twenty, since she ruled that little store; and I have
no doubt she is having a very dainty and elegant retirement in a place
that is always and forever sweetly fragrant.

Blessed eb,
Baha

You need a camera disguised as sushi-in-a-can. <g>
