Oh! He's such a neat dog. I love that "look" on his face. Wah. You're making me
really miss having a dog. We had a little escape artist who managed to *climb*
the kennel wire, then he'd end up on top of the row of cages, about 15 feet in
the air. He'd just hang out up there until staff got there in the a.m. to get
him down. We named him Harry, for Harry Houdini.

This news story was shown on Australian TV last night!  Red looks a
lot like Fox, our Pharaoh Hound, but has brown eyes instead of
characteristic Pharaoh Hound red/amber eyes.  Such a cute dog with
*so* much mischief locked away in that bored brain of his!  I love it
that he has a little mate that he takes care of!

The story was particularly pertinent to me because me and Dave are
engaged in an escalating "arms race" with our two hounds to try and
keep them confined to a yard while we're at work.  We have already had
several rounds of fixing the yard and them finding new ways to escape.
This weekend we're going to make another attempt to fix it.  When we
lived in Armidale we had the same problem (we won in the end) - our
dogs are, unfortunately, talented escape artists!

I just posted on this as well (under the subject "Houdini dog escapes
from cage").

Just be glad he doesn't have opposable thumbs!!

I had a Sheltie like that. I don't think we ever did completely outwit
him until he got middle-aged and sedentary. :-)

Aargh, our dogs *are* middle-aged, but nothing remotely sedentary
about them.  Fox is almost 7 and Kendra is 6, which puts both of them
in the very middle of the average life-span for their breeds.
Experienced beagle-owners have said to me that their beagles only
decided to become sedentary well into old age and I know Kendra's
mother, Muffy (who lived with us for a couple of years) didn't ever
become sedentary!

Little horrors - good thing we love them to bits!

I sometimes wonder about average life-spans, my father had a dalmation,
they are supposed to live 10-12 years, my father's lived to be nearly
18.
