Table manners

I've never taken my cats out to a restaurant, they like to be served their
meals at home. They have always got dry food in their bowl, and fresh water.
From time to time I like to give them a snack, maybe some tuna or something
like that. That's always appreciated. Teti and Tinùviel are the best of
friends, so they share the same bowl, standing side by side eating in peace,
just having a good time.

The other day I found some new cat food at the store, a tiny can of chichen
breast chunks in jelly. Hmm, it looked good, even to me, so I bought one to
let them try it.

I went home, and emptied the can into a bowl and put it down on the floor.
The cats, already ready for action after seeing me messing around with a
food bowl and cat food, sniffed at it, took a few licks, and started EATING.
Wow, an immediate success, I thought.

When they were about half way down I turned towards them and asked,
expecting no response at all, "Does it taste good?"

Tinùviel looked up immediately and said "Yieee! Yieee!", and then Teti
lifted his head from the food and uttered a "Mmaorrrrrr!" Then they dived
into the bowl again to finish their meal.

I mean, where in the world did they learn this?? You and I know that when
the waiter shows up to check if everything is all right, we answer politely
even if we are just in the middle of the meal. But where do cats learn such
politeness and such manners?

Beats me...

Ah.  You've clearly got hold of a can of 9-Lives Talk Soup by mistake.
Give them a while and they'll either get over it or tell you what it's
like to be feline.

At least two-thirds of our miseries spring from human stupidity, human
malice and those great motivators and justifiers of malice and stupidity:
idealism, dogmatism and proselytizing zeal on behalf of religous or
political ideas.

thank you for this posting:-) Finally someone, who shares the same
amazement than I do.

I think they don't learn it, but understand everything we do or say from
the beginning:-) Unfortunately they show us only sometimes.

Something similar happened to me lately with Owl. I was making up the bed
and Owl came into the bedroom and jumped on the bed. Because I was busy
pulling a sheet over one of the mattresses, I said to Owl: please don't
step on that mattress, I'm not yet finished. And Owl, who was about to run
over that mattress to get under the sheet, stopped and sat down, looking at
me.

These are great! Yes, I do believe they understand us. Too many times it
seems just like they are following what we say for it to be "an accident".

Heh, no matter how much I plead with them, the hoolikittens here jump on
the bed and tunnel under the sheets and covers while I'm trying to make
the bed. I guess I just didn't bring them up right.

don't worry, I don't think, you didn't bring them up right. You gave the
answer yourself: they are still hoolikittens.

I think, that they listen and follow the things we say comes out when a cat
has a day with good mood and in addition they want to do us something
good:-)
