laurie w - 29 Apr 2006 07:06 GMT Have a question that I could use a good answer for, actually, a kitty.
Was a stray in the neighborhood, and constantly getting beaten up by the bigger fatter 'stray' cat. This one seems young, I walked right up to him/her, and Stray Kitty let me pick him/her up with no trying to bite or scratch or anything like that- seems extremely sweet and loving. Stray Kitten is skinny, but not starving to the point that Kady was.
I called about a dozen places tonite, nobody can take the kitten. I am deed restricted, to 2 pets , and I already have 3. My cat Koko has Bartonella and possibly Herpes, so I cannot take in another cat. I saved Kady when she was a stray and the doggie brought her home, I rescued Koko when she was a baby... so I have done all that I can to save babies that need saving......
I will drive anywhere with the kitten, if I can find a place that will take her / him and rehome Stray Kitty to a good place. It is just about impossible for me to keep this one for enough time to let that happen. Too much risk to my not so healthy cat, and also too much risk to Stray Kitten.
Any suggestions ?? I am in florida also, but aways from your area.... I am north of Tampa, but not afraid to drive a few hours, if it means I can find a place where she will be saved and find a good forever home.
thanks,
laurie

I can only suggest calling PASS (opens at 10:00 am) in New Port Richie (Pasco County) to see if they have any suggestions for you. Their number is 727-817-1812. There's also a place in Brooksville (Pasco County) that spays and neuters animals for, what is it, like $20? and they might know of some non-kill shelter. It's called Pet Love and their number is 352-799-9990.
Hope this helps in some way.

Thanks bunches, I will give them a try I called our vet, they said they only put them in the office in the cage, if they are left outside and have no alternative. GRRRRRR She is a sweetheart, she deserves a good home. I posted some pics of her at alt binaries pics animals.

Is her fur called tortoise shell? I had a really good friend back on Maui who had two sister cats who looked just like her. They were called Motor (she purred like a car) and TV ('cause she meatloafed on the TV). Good luck, Laurie!

I don't know why people don't keep their kitties in , specially around here, there's so many things that can hurt them:( our kitties do go out, but only on a leash and harness...... never just run anywhere, and they travel allover with us, we go camping and everything, and they are always on the leash when outside . and they are fine with it... :)
so far nothing :(
Matthew AKA NMR - 29 Apr 2006 16:14 GMT http://www.humanesocietytampa.org/ http://www.magicyellow.com/category/Animal_Shelters/Tampa_FL.html Laurie 2 others beat me to it for the list. But Halifax in Daytona is a kill shelter
Here is also a couple other great site for http://www.catswithnoname.net/Florida.htm http://www.netpets.org/cats/catresc/groups/florida.html
Right now our shelter is closed to new animals first time in many years. Orlando is doing some BS rezoning and licensing issue. It is affecting many shelters that are private.
I don't own the shelter. I am one of the money men, a shelter manager and volunteer till I got hurt. The owner announced today the shelter is closing, land up for sale and moving the shelter to a new area in a different county as soon as the permits are done. I think she is actually moving out of Florida but not letting us know if the deal does not go thru. She has had this in the works for a while She is tired of dealing with political BS. I don't blame her
Besides us I always recommended http://www.petrescuebyjudy.com/index2.htm in Orlando but she is being effected by the same problems
Hope this all helps. Good luck This is a sad time for the animals in Florida most of the shelters are full

Christina Websell - 29 Apr 2006 23:55 GMT >> Have a question that I could use a good answer for, actually, a kitty. >> [quoted text clipped - 40 lines] > for the kitty, > Polonca and Soncek I second that. I love torties. The spaying/neutering program of enlightenment (i.e. GET IT DONE NOW) seems to have worked so well in my area for the last few years that kittens are quite hard to come by. Ordinary kittens can change hands for upwards of £40 (yes, black ones too!) and a fancy coloured (say) calico longhair probably £80. I think this is a good thing. If some people who got a free cat now can't and paid for it maybe it won't be seen as so disposable. Or maybe they wouldn't get it at all which would be best.
I cannot understand this prejudice against black cats that I've read about on the group. Why could this be? Cats are cats, no matter what their colour is. It wouldn't bother me at all if both my cats were totally black, why would it? They are not, although Kitty is fairly black (with tuxedo and smart socks and stockings) Is this is USA thing or also in the UK, this prejudice against black cats? There are certainly some black cats around my garden which BF has to remind to keep in their own territory, I saw him do this tonight. No nastiness, just a confrontation in which Boyfie said "Excuse me, get out" and he did. One of the black cats is "the enemy" but we haven't seen him for a while. Another one of the black cats is a charming boy, this is the one that KFC was fond of at one time. He is extremely shy. He likes to come and hunt around my chicken huts and once I saw him kill a good medium sized rat, so I'd like to encourage him to stay! He was there this morning early, ratting, but Boyfie who always has to accompany me to feed the chickens in the early morning spotted him and chased him off. I've had a word with Boyfie. I said "look. you catch the little ratties but when it gets to the bigger ones you wash yourself." He had to admit it. He says the big ones bite him back. So I said if the black cat wants to kill rats that you are too frightened of you have to let him in the garden. Poor Boyfie. What to do? He doesn't want to kill the big rats but neither does he want black cat in his garden.

Personally, I love black cats - I have 3!!! How I'm going to tell Betty & Weeble apart without picking them up and looking under their tails (once Betty's full grown, that is) I'd like to know. Tennessee is easy - he's big & fat, and doesn't have the young wide-eyed look that both Betty & Weebs have. But if DH & I are in the living room, watching TV, the room is usually dark with only ambient lighting, and we see a dark unstriped tail go by, we don't know if it's Ping, Smokey, Weeble, Betty or Tennessee! If it's striped with a white tip, it's Barney. Striped with orange patches and orange on the base, Mimi. Striped with a 'rounded' tip, Moe (her tail isn't pointy, it's nice and 'rounded'). Striped and pointed, Ernie. Striped with orange patches (but no orange at the base), Lizzie. Striped with a ring of white near the base, then another patch of stripes right at the base, Bam-Bam. Big & puffy - Missy (she's a long-hair) - and right now the underside, near her bum, has been shaved due to her messy-bum she had earlier this month.
